Clipboard manager "CopyQ" doesnt work on Zorin 17, but worked fine on Zorin 16

It installs fine but anything copied to clipboard doesnt transfer to the program. Not sure why.

Could someone install in on their side and see if they can get it to work?
It's the best clipboard manager there is for linux/zorin in my opinion, lots of unique and very useful features.

Zorin 16 used a different Gnome shell. My search found this:

"copyq not working in Gnome shell 43

The Clipboard Indicator extension, installed from extensions.gnome.org, is not working as expected in Gnome Shell 43. To troubleshoot the issue, let’s follow these steps:

  1. Check the extension’s status: Ensure the Clipboard Indicator extension is enabled and updated. You can do this by:
  • Pressing the Super key (+) to open the Activities overview
  • Typing “Extensions” in the search bar
  • Clicking on the “Extensions” app
  • Looking for the Clipboard Indicator extension and verifying its toggle switch is turned on (should be green)
  • If the extension is disabled, toggle it on
  1. Verify the extension’s compatibility: Although the extension is listed as compatible with Gnome Shell, it’s possible there’s a compatibility issue with version 43. You can try:
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the extension
  • Checking the extension’s changelog for any known issues or updates related to Gnome Shell 43
  1. Check for conflicts with other extensions: Other enabled extensions might be interfering with Clipboard Indicator’s functionality. Try:
  • Disabling all other extensions and testing Clipboard Indicator separately
  • Re-enabling extensions one by one to identify potential conflicts
  1. System logs and debugging: If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, you can:
  • Enable debugging logs for the Clipboard Indicator extension (if available) to gather more information about the error
  • Check system logs (e.g., journalctl or gnome-logs) for any relevant error messages related to the extension

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to:

  • Report the problem on the GNOME Shell Extensions website (after creating an account) to help the developers identify and fix the issue
  • Consider alternative clipboard managers or solutions for Gnome Shell 43

Remember to always exercise caution when installing and managing extensions, as they can potentially cause system instability or security issues if not properly configured or maintained."

Another question, are you using Wayland or xorg?

Seems to work fine for me, both under X11 and Wayland  I wonder if the issue happens only with certain programs? I've tried Firefox, which comes installed as a Flatpak, but it works fine there as well.

@Jessie

Check your installation method, if you used the Software Store the issue may have been that CopyQ itself is a flatpak which tends to have this sort of issues:

@swarfendor437 , you must be using A.I. to help solve issues here sometimes.
Because I am talking about copyq, but your response is talking about " Clipboard Indicator extension, installed from [extensions.gnome.org]"

2.) I am using wayland.

3.) Thanks for checking @zenzen , it doesnt work for firefox or Chromium.

I will now try to install it in a non Flatpak way.

Yep, that solved it. I re-installed it in a non flatpak way and it works now.
Also, why does Zorin 17 by default install flatpak?

Simply because it uses Gnome under the hood, and Flatpak is developed by Gnome, which tends to be quite pushy about this. I could understand why the Zorin developers wanted to follow along with this at first, but after so many issues year after year.... I just don't get it :person_shrugging:

Don't get me wrong, is not like Flatpak is the devil — I personally only use it as a last resort, though — but one major point against it are these little things that make the user experience so much worse. For Zorin OS, which supposedly appeals to an audience who are used to things that "just work", this just adds unnecessary friction.

I have come to believe that it is because the ZorinGroup follows the Gnome Mindset: Users should be controlled, not in control.
They push for Wayland whether it is ready or not.
They push Gnome, even eliminating other options.
They push for Flatpak.
RedHat / IBM corporate agenda - pushed on a small independent Distro. That you can buy. Put it all together and the simplest of human motives becomes the top pick.

Don't forget to check drop-down arrow in software store. Apt is listed as Zorin Apt so alphabetically it becomes flatpak, snap, Zorin OS APT when really apt should be first without the Zorin as apt has been around much longer than team Zorin!

I wouldn't say that they push Flatpak. I mean Zorin offers Flatpak, Snap and .deb out of the Box. So, you have the Choice to choose. Yes, maybe the Order of the Formats can be discussed but You can click on it and take a look at the Format.

I am going by what they say in words, not by what is offered in the distro.

RESOLVED: reinstalled app NOT via Flatpak but from the dropdown used the Zorin store install.

that's why i always use terminal to install stuff. I hardly ever use the software store .
I use copyQ and installed it on different distros and always worked out the box.

sudo apt install copyq
