Complete nightmare: Steam loops, broken games, and lost data after switching to Zorin

I need someone to explain to me how this is supposed to be a user-friendly operating system for gaming.

Ever since I made the switch to Zorin Core (coming from Linux Mint where everything actually worked), my system has been an absolute disaster. > * Resident Evil 5 refuses to launch entirely, looping endlessly back to the green play button no matter what Proton version, launch option, or clean prefix I try.

  • Steam is trapped in a constant "Restart Steam" background loop error.
  • I have burned through 109 GB of internet data trying to troubleshoot, update, and fix issues caused by this transition.
  • Now my boot loader is wrecked, and I can't even get back to my working environment.

How are people supposed to recommend Zorin for gaming when migrating to it completely breaks basic functionality, eats through expensive data limits, and leaves users stranded? If anyone actually has a real fix for this wreckage, I'm all ears, because right now this has been a massive disaster.

Are you using Wayland display protocol?

If you have access to another computer that can write a bootable USB stick, Super Grub2 Disk should allow you too find and boot Zorin (or any other installed OS) as long as Zorin itself is sill working and it's only a bootloader problem.

  • Is Steam installed as Flatpak or APT Package?
  • Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
  • What Graphics Card do You use? If Nvidia: What Driver is installed?

I don't know how these Recommendations are but Zorin itself doesn't say that it is a Gaming Distro. You can set it up, yes. But it is not Gaming focused. It is a normal OS.

When You still have a Bootstick with Zorin, start it in Live Mode and look for ''Boot Repair'' and let it run.
