Costumizing wine, swapping windows folder with a real Windows installation folder😂

Hi there,

Does anyone have an idea what would happen if I would copy or 'merge' the c:\Windows folder from (for example) a Windows 7 (win32) nstallation with the one included with wine? Will it definitely break everything or would it increase compatibility?

I guress a lot of things shouldn't be overwritten such as device drivers and the Windows registry. But I thought of it as an interesting experiment.

Kind regards!

I have the feeling this is not going to work... but you should do it anyway and let us know! Just be sure to make a proper backup of your files

No... that will not work.

The pathways used by Wine are part of a compatibility layer, not an emulation. As such, they have differences.
On Windows OS, the path to things is standardized. On Wine, however, many of those components are simply not in existence at the locations that they are on Windows OS.

Well then, I figured it was a long shot haha  I will report back how things break, if I end up trying something anyways :innocent: When I got the idea, it really felt like something you would see on a YouTube channel like Michael MJD's. If you don't know the channel, it is full of these weird experiments
