I'm experiencing an issue where it's impossible to use the touchpad and mouse simultaneously.
The cursor behaves erratically, moving unexpectedly. For example, while writing a sentence, the cursor might suddenly jump to the middle of the page.
This issue has been a persistent bug, even on my Ubuntu OS (from 18.04 to 24.04).
It occurs on Zorin OS 17.3 Pro, with both GNOME, X11, and Wayland environments, and across multiple PCs. Currently, I'm encountering it on a Dell G3 15 3500.
I hope Zorin OS can address this issue soon.
Best regards.

My personal comment is that this text is too long?!
If this has persisted over that many versions of Ubuntu I would first suspect an issue with either the device itself or the drivers being used, especially considering this is supposed to be a device officially supported by Canonical:
Are you using a special type of mouse? Try plugging in another one, if you have that option available, to see if another device behaves differently.
Also, does this issue happen when you're only using the trackpad without a mouse plugged in?
I have a similar problem with an old 2012~2013 Chromebook — sometimes I hit the trackpad with my palm or wrist while I'm typing — but I don't have any issues when I use an external mouse. The trackpad is now pretty worn down, so that might also be a factor.
On my main computer I'm using that exact same mouse and I've never had an issue with it:
Well, that is quite the conundrum... you're having the same issue on multiple computers, using different wired and wireless mouses[1], different touchpads and multiple configurations of operating system and software?
This does happen only when you have a mouse plugged in, right? If so, I would try to use yet a different one... I think it's more likely that you got unlucky with your peripherals, rather than everything else misbehaving in the exact same way.
I remember when students with low vision were issued with Dell notebooks they had similar issues with touchpad jumping around. The solution was to install specific software to sort this out ... and of course it only worked in Windows.
Launchpad is a platform that the Zorin developers use to share their code for the project. It has no connection to the actual physical trackpad on a laptop, so that's completely normal
On Dell's website there seems to be documentation for this particular issue so this is apparently not uncommon for your laptop model. But as @swarfendor437 says, the solution they provide only applies for Windows... have you tried reaching out to them in case they have another solution for Linux?
NOTE: There are settings that prevent the cursor from jumping around while typing. If that is your issue, see the Resolving the Cursor Jumping Around While Typing on the Notebook Keyboard section of the Dell Knowledge Base article Fixing Your Laptop Touchpad not Working in Windows.
Yes, years ago. In the Dell communauty since mai 6, 2021.
The support for Ubuntu was not very efficient by this time. Some questions but not on this topic :).
From Dell's Ubuntu documentation (Ubuntu was the preinstalled system)

My bad, missed the post on Ergo mouse. Found this using Brave A.I. and using Ubuntu 22.04 on which Zorin is based:
" Logitech Ergo 575 Issues
To address the issue of the Logitech Ergo 575 trackball jumping in Ubuntu 22.04, you can try using the Solaar application to configure and fine-tune the settings of your device. Solaar is a comprehensive tool for managing Logitech devices on Linux systems and can help resolve issues like cursor jumping or sensitivity problems.
Install Solaar :
Open a terminal and run the following command to install Solaar:
sudo apt install solaar
Configure the Trackball :
After installing Solaar, launch the application. You can do this by searching for "Solaar" in your application menu or by running solaar in the terminal.
Solaar should automatically detect your Logitech Ergo 575 trackball. If it doesn't, ensure that the device is paired and connected.
In the Solaar interface, select your trackball from the list of devices.
Adjust the settings to improve the cursor behavior:
Pointer Speed : Increase the pointer speed to make the trackball more responsive.
Scroll Speed : Modify the scroll speed to ensure smooth and consistent scrolling.
DPI Settings : Adjust the DPI (dots per inch) settings to control the sensitivity of the trackball.
Check for Firmware Updates :
Ensure that your trackball has the latest firmware. Solaar can sometimes provide firmware updates for supported devices, which might resolve hardware-related issues.
Additional Configuration :
If the issue persists, you can try using other tools like xinput to further customize the trackball settings. For example, you can adjust the acceleration and threshold settings:
xinput set-prop "Logitech ERGO M575 Trackball" "libinput Accel Speed" -0.5
xinput set-prop "Logitech ERGO M575 Trackball" "libinput Accel Profile" 1
Community and Support :
If you continue to experience issues, consider seeking help from the Ubuntu community or the Solaar GitHub repository. Users and developers can provide additional insights and solutions.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the jumping issue and improve the overall performance of your Logitech Ergo 575 trackball in Ubuntu 22.04.
@jre10 to get to xorg, logout, select your username and a small cog appears lower left. Click on it and select 'Zorin on xorg', then enter your password.
You could try some of those options mentioned, or the solution proposed by @swarfendor437 to see if that makes an impact. But I think it's clear that the problem is with the device, acknowledged even by Dell itself... I'm still wondering why this happened with other laptops, as you mentioned. Are those the same model by any chance?
