Hi There, On an old laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500) with a french keyboard, I tried several OS during the last days (win 10 ; linux mint and Zorin OS).
Zorin OS is my favorite OS but both ctrl keys (right and left) doesnt work on it (that keys works on linux mint). I tried the gnome-tweark without success and others french keyboards settings. It's a fresh install.
Is there any way to see if the keys are really working (something like a visual keyboard)?
Update : the Ctrl key works as expected on an external keyboard (it seems that it's a hardware problem with integrated keyboard...)
Try to switch to Xorg, because it is an old notebook.
Logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There you can switch between Xorg and Wayland.
At settings >accessibility you can find a virtual keyboard.
Hi There,
As running "xev" from a terminal, (of course, mouse pointer placed in this new window), pressing the Ctrl Keys produce... nothing. The others keys produce keyrelease event + a short description.
I try several keyboard layout (french; french obsolete; french without dead keys; english...), unfortunately nothing works.
In addition, I try to replace the USB installation media, start on it -> try or install zorin OS. During check process, I'm not able to press Ctrl + C to cancel all filesystems checks (hardware issue?).
I recheck the keyboard internal connection (because I remove/replace it as cleaning vent-radiator inside the laptop) -> same issue.
Give a try with linux mint installer -> same issue
If you are not too bothered about the keyboard's future, you could try squirting a little switch cleaner (e.g. isopropyl alcohol) under the affected keys and then tap them to see if that cleans up any physical contacts.
If you are able to get to the internal keyboard connector, inspect that for contact condition and if not loose etc. If a laptop, I accept that may be a challenge.
