Cursor changes to default in certain windows

Changed to a custom cursor (from Pling, through Tweaks)

New one shows up fine on most windows, including desktop.

But for some it changes to this tiny black cursor in some windows.
Only within that window; as soon as I move outside of it, regardless of focus, it returns to normal. Then when I bring it back in, it's tiny again. This happens to seemingly unrelated apps. Works fine in Okular, VLC, Tuta, Ungoogled Chromium, GIMP, LibreOffice... but not Firefox, Brave, Freetube, Amberol

I'm not sure why this happens. Can I make it so that the new one shows up everywhere all the time? Thanks.

Are those installed as flatpaks or snaps?

Everything I mentioned is Flatpak. There really doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern. Thought it's a browser thing but other browsers including electron wrappers work fine.

It could be that the permission settings for using custom themes are different for each of the flatpaks. You could try adjusting it via flatseal.

I enabled every single option on flatsteal but no bueno; cursor is still wrong.

Also in the process found out that Flatseal doesn't use the new cursor either. It's all very strange.

Edit - Interestingly, I was messing around with cursor theme (on Tweaks)‌ and size (accessibility)‌ while testing on a firefox window and it just... crashed?

I agree with Storm - Definitely sounds like a Flatpak thing. You can try forcing system wide use of your custom cursor by entering Root. Then editing /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme with the line Inherits= set to your custom cursor theme name.
For example: Inherits=mech_cursor Or Inherits=redglass
Save the file when done. Reboot and test.

Another reason to remove flatpak IMHO.

Issue persists unfortunately, and not only that but Firefox keeps crashing because of it too. This is going beyond aesthetics and is affecting usability.

I guess I'll stick to the default cursors for now. Thanks for all your help, everyone.

The cursor theme should not cause crashes - no matter what.

The issue must be stemming from something else. The cursor may make a symptom apparent but it cannot cause them.

You have putted Your Cursor Theme to the local Path? If yes change that. For Flatpaks You need the usr instead of the local Path. I have made this Experience, too.

So take Your Cursor Theme Folder and move/copy it to /usr/share/icons/ and - in Case of copy - don't forget to delete the Cursor Theme Folder in the local Path.
