Custom desktop icon arrangement

Trying to custom-arrange desktop icons on Zorin 17.2. When I right click on the desktop, there are several choices, but none of them allow me to set up the icons as I want them, and then have that order retained.

The "keep arranged" keeps icons arranged, but the ordering choices below "keep arranged" do not include an option for "custom order", or to turn off the ordering choice altogether.

Is there something I am missing or doing wrong? I have tried this with both Wayland and the .X11 desktop manager. This PC is being setup for someone who is driven by "muscle memory" and having icons in positions similar to where they were on their Windows desktop would go a very long way to help the transition to Linux and Zorin.

As far as I know, there's no way to lock icons in place when using a custom sorting. That would be a nice feature to add, so I've moved this to Feedback (unless someone who knows can share a way to do this).

However, once the icons are placed as needed, it shouldn't be too difficult to get used to it. Even if you move them by accident, they can be re-arranged easily.

Moved from Feedback to General Help, as you are asking for help.
