Hi everyone. Tonight both Higan and Retroarch don't see my secondary hard drive in which are installed games roms. Drive is mounted and used by Amule. I tried to turn off Amule and also unmounting and mounting again that drive. Any suggestions?
You tried mounting and unmounting the drive... but wouldn't that mean that you can see it, and is being detected correctly? Can you clarify what you mean by this?
Also, please run lsblk
in a terminal and see if the drive appears in the output.
The drive appears in the output of the terminal after that command. The drive is correctly detected also by Disks for example. Unmounting and re-mounting on Disks was only a futile attempt to make the drive seen by that programs.
For the programs that don't see the relevant drives, are you using flatpak versions? Flatpaks generally need their own permissions adjusted to see other drives; by default they're isolated from most of the filesystem. The easiest way to make the necessary adjustments is with a utility called Flatseal, but if you're NOT using flatpak versions of the affected applications, this isn't your issue.
No i'm not using flatpak versions.
I mean, if you can see the hard drive and use it normally with any other program, this must be a specific issue with how amule works. I'm not familiar with this program, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to do with drives, or why. I see they have a forum, maybe you can ask over there as well to see if someone has already gone through this.
Thank you but my problem is with the emulators, not with Amule. Amule works perfectly. Sorry if i have explained myself in a wrong way, i'm italian and i don't write on english language very often..
My bad, I just read the first post again and realized what you mean.... I'm still wondering if this is not an issue with how those emulators work. Again, I'm afraid I will be of no use here since I've never used them; perhaps @Ponce-De-Leon might have some ideas?
But, if the drive is detected fine even by other programs then it must be specific to those emulators. Are you sure there are no options to explicitly make them available? For example, for virtual machines you must make that choice explicitly otherwise external drives are not detected (at least with software like Virtual Manager):
Is the Drive shown in the File Manager, too?
So, You are using the AppImage, yes?
And do You have the fitting BIOS for Your Roms?
There are no options to make disks avaiable in Retroarch
Sorry I must correct myself. I'm using the flatpak version of Retroarch, i opened a thread about it in this forum. The app version (repository) does not work. The strange thing is it happens also on Mint Debian edition. Just tried to give all the permissions on Flatseal. But 3 days ago i had not that problem. So i must understand what changed.. Eventually i use various emulators on Windows version with Wine and all works fine. However there are other apps from repository that do not work fine (on both Zorin and Mint). A friend of mine is experiencing the same thing with some apps not working. But returning to topic I think that Linux distros often work bad with hard drives formatted with Windows. Of course is a thinking of a beginner with Linux.
Ok, for clarity. GNU/Linux in the old days could not access Windows drives formatted with NTFS until ntfs-3g was created. Where the problem lies is if you have data within C:\ drive where Windows exists, reading and writing back to files on the same partition as C:\ drive can lead to corrupt files. I've posted a video I made on how to get round this issue on another of your threads about File Systems.

No partitions here, only OS on a drive, games on another drive. This is a machine in which were installed Windows 10.
If you are using Flatpak, its highly likely you need to use Flatseal, to give your emulator access to the file system.
I have the Flatpak version of Steam, so I had to use Flatseal to give Steam permission to see and utilize my external 2TB NVME drive. I have a post on how to do this with Steam bellow...

Then, I would suggest to go to the Download Page:
And there download the AppImage and try that:
They also offer an Installation Video on Youtube (AppImage is the last Part of it):
Thank you for your help but I have already tried it. That link is a Steam download and i don't want it on my pc. However the problem is also with other programs, i tried also a Super Nes emulator. Pheraps the solution is the kind of label on Disks (for example "Label=Data") but now i cannot try it.
The black Button goes to Steam, yes. But I marked with a red Frame the AppImage under it.
I guess, You have to set up in the Settings of the Program where Your ROM's are safed. And for this, You have to choose the Driver with the ROM's. I don't know if You plug it on and off. If Yes, maybe when You plug it out, the Prograt falls back to a default Setting.
Ok thank you. In this way i can play my games. Thank you so much!
