I have 2 applications that are not working with Wayland. I think from what I am reading switching to Xorg will work. I have no gear icon on the login screen is this a problem or can I go ahead with the instructions I found to disable Wayland?

You need to login normally to your account first, and logout. Then you will see the gear icon to switch between Xorg and Wayland.

X on the login screen (as pointed out by @zenzen) will be labeled 'Zorin Desktop' - just a heads up!

On Zorin OS 16, Xorg was default, so the options were
- Zorin Desktop
= Zorin Desktop on Wayland
On Zorin OS 17, Wayland is the new default. Zorin OS will still default to Xorg if you have hardware that Wayland cannot work with and so the above two options will show. Otherwise, it would be:
- Zorin Desktop
- Zorin Desktop on X

Did You clicked on Your Account and the Password Field was appeared? Because the Gear Icon will only appear then.
