On a Wayland session with an NVIDIA GPU, the display does not come back
after the screen blanks. The machine stays responsive but the compositor
can no longer present frames, so a hard reboot is the only recovery.

Does this happen in Xorg, too? If You have Logs, it would be nice when You could post them here.

Never tested on xorg however i have logs from wayland.
i attached an image of a summary of the logs the full log file is over 4600 lines
You could test if it behaves the same on Xorg, too. That could help to know. Then, You could disable the Zorin AppIndicators to see if that helps. Also I see, You use the 580 open Nvidia Driver. Maybe try a non-open One more current Driver Version.
That could help to specifiy the actual Issue more. At least the first 2 Things would be a fast Test.
