I'm experiencing a big issue when I try to use the DisplayPort of my laptop : The PC freezes and I can only shut it off and reboot.
The PC is a Dell Precision M6500, that works like a charm for its age, its main usage would be to use the DisplayPort...that was actually done successfully under Win 7/8/10 over the last decade.
It has an Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M or 3800M (I don't remember which one TBH, as it is 15 years old...). Under Zorin 17.3 it is identified as lvmpipe (LLVM 15.0.7, 128 bits), and there is nothing that can be done from Software & updates/Additional drivers.
For Zorin OS 18, both possible cards you listed are too old for support.
Even the later card would need the legacy 390 driver.
In order to get the Nvidia card working, and hoping it is the later model, you could try downgrading to the 5.15 kernel and installing the legacy 390 driver.
I cannot find a legacy 390 driver for Noble. I checked Butterfly (Kelebek) and others.
Maybe @Forpli knows of one...
But you may need to switch to Zorin OS 17 in order to use these.
So you are on Zorin 17? There you should be able to install the legacy driver.
Have you switched from Wayland to XOrg? XOrg makes less problems with old nvidia cards. Log out and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg".
Are secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS disabled (or have you created a MOK instead to use Linux with secure boot enabled)? If you have a Dualboot with Windows, make sure that fast startup in the energy settings of Windows is disabled, too.
Then install kernel 5.15 to use the legacy nvidia drivers or add the kelebek333 ppa so that you can use the legacy nvidia drivers with kernel 6.8.
You could also give Zorin lite a try. On my old DELL laptop with nvidia the lite version runs better and more quiet.
