One main reason why me, and many across the world are ditching Windows 11 and staying with Windows 10 Pro is because Microsoft is using artificial intelligence (A.I.) in their software, which connects across the internet. That is both dangerous and very risky. I do NOT want ANY of that A.I. garbage in my operating systems. Will you promise NOT to implement ANY A.I., A.R., V.R. or ANY tracking, telemetry and sentient junk in your software? WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT. Why ditch one version only to find out Linux is putting that junk in their own distros? A.I. is VERY problematic and has MANY issues I want to avoid.
I know that Zorin OS does not exploit users like Big Tech products do and I can explain that to you. But I am afraid that the cause of your concern is not there. An anxious person can find all things anxious.
Well, have a cup of coffee and relax. This image was created by AI, though.
I totally get what you are saying. But I personally would not have a problem installing an app that acts like a repository of information users can ask questions to or make requests of. As long as the app stays within its own boundaries and doesn't encroach onto users' computing freedoms, then OK.
Data collection and AI are different topics, and one can be okay with one while staying away from the other. People who are leaving Microsoft do so because of concerns with privacy, since it's much harder to control what is sent to Microsoft without explicit knowledge or consent. The use of AI only makes this that much more invasive and dystopian, but there's no correlation between caring about privacy and being scared of AI. It's true though, that those who don't care at the slightest about privacy – a great majority, sadly – are going to be fine with both.
Don't get me wrong, I also think what Microsoft is doing is harmful to anyone but them, the only ones profiting from this move. But it's important to understand that these are different topics and we make decisions rationally rather than yelling fire for no good reason.
If you are curious, there are models that you can install on your machine or one as server under your control. This runs locally with no need to reach out online, and it's a great place to start.
Was the coffee also prepared by the AI?
But not with the Hair in it, haha!
It is an extension of RFC 2324!
This is literally mess-y hair.
It's important to remain calm. In the past, the science fiction of an AI apocalypse was commonplace, but it is more likely that humans destroy themselves. And it will be hatred, anger, and fear that will cause it. So I would refrain from fanning the fears of others.
This is brilliant
As I said, regardless of different topics, they both have dangers, and both are horrible. Artificial intelligence is MUCH worse. Because if it becomes sentient, then you can kiss your world goodbye. It is already bad enough with bad leaders stealing elections, globalism and socialism/communism/marxism. But I digress. It is not fearmongering. It has been warned about for decades, and I was one of them. And many dangers are already coming about. People are selfish and lazy, and do not see the writing on the walls. Data collection can be blocked and disabled easily by many avenues and software. However, at this point, all things A.I. and A.R. cannot be blocked and prevented on a wider basis. So, those are the biggest issues with Windows 11, NOT data collection, which thousands of companies are doing that every day. What do you think is being sold and collected: your data, including credit reports. But those things alone will not be the end of the world as we know it. Anything which is A.I. is both demonic in essence and has only one way, and that is to allow itself to gain full control. This is NOT a conspiracy theory. These things have actually been verified, documented and openly admitted. This is the truth. So, I will repeat myself, DO NOT PUT artificial intelligence in your software, because we all have to use the internet. Period. I cannot be more clear than that.
I would NEVER use ANY A.I. chatbots, websites, programs, processes, apps or manipulation. Many dangers are apparent in all of that. I am not going to come back to this post. Many Linux users overall are pushing back against A.I., and this is one reason why I will NEVER use ANY OS that implements in ANY way the use of A.I. or A.R. At all, EVER. This is why I am warning to one of the last frontiers hopefully to get this warning, Zorin OS, because many of us need Windows like software and environments.

Truth is one of my least favorite words.
Those who claim to know the truth will be wrong. Because they are incapable of admitting their wrong. It is the only one way to correct it.
This is quite an assumption.

This is a HelpDesk, primarily. While discussions and free discourse can cover a variety of computer related topics, please refrain from any such political commentary.
In general, I agree with the concept of refraining from using what we are calling A.I. frivolously. The ZorinGroup has expressed nothing in regards to any interest in the inclusion of A.I. and currently performs no data collection (except for the anonymous Zorin Census
which users can opt in or out of.)
I must say over Night it became a quite funny Thread here, hahaha!
Truth is a fact. Either you get it or you do not. If you hate the word, maybe it is because you never can admit you are wrong also. Case in point.

This is why many things have gotten worse, not better, and tribalism has become too common, which is another reason why technology has gotten worse, not better. So, you cannot say this is just a help forum and not acknowledge the elephant in the room. I am on your side, or I would not consider going to a Linux product, something I never said I would do in my entire life. I will leave it at that. Thank you for acknowledging that we need to go AWAY from dangerous tech like A.I. and A.R. and not towards it. Because this is the main and sole reason I will, for the first time in my life, NOT upgrade to the new version of Windows. Let that sink in. I like Zorin OS and have done a sandbox test, and I am interested in it. But as soon as ANY form of A.I./A.R. goes in, even with Linux products, I will NEVER trust operating systems again. I think, at this point, I am done with this post. I appreciate your time and affirmations. I will not return here. Furthermore, I will remove this bookmark. I just want to make sure you know how serious a majority of us really are about A.I./A.R. NOT being in Linux products in any way, shape or form. I say I speak for thousands, if not millions of people, that at some point has expressed deep concerns about these invasive and dangerous technologies.
look in the mirror
Is there any reason why you are taking such a defensive stance? We are all allowed to agree or disagree. Take it easy.
Thousands and millions have expressed concerns about many things that today are considered perfectly acceptable, safe and even healthy for any society. I would go as far as to say that just about every technological advancement made in the last century has raised great concerns about our very survival.
Many users can be quite passionate about the things they believe strongly in. This includes myself.
The reality is, however, that arguments must be made that are judged by their own merit, not based on political controversy nor partisan division.
This is a Computing Help Support Forum. We can acknowledge the deep issues that affect our experiences as users: Indeed, we must do so.
But we can do so with evidence, merit based arguments and discussions that focus on ideas, not on personal traits, beliefs or personal attacks.
We can discuss the specific risks and dangers of A.I. and offer suggestions for users to mitigate those risks. We can discuss user options for promoting safe and secure desktop environments to our developers and ensuring user interests are met by developers.
However, if the thread is going to devolve into personal attacks; this thread will be closed and possibly removed.
Take it easy.
The way I see it, A.I. is good and bad at the same time: it just depends on how it's used
The way it is being integrated into windows is more of a spyware than anything, and I agree that no other operating system should integrate it like that
With how many GNU/Linux operating systems are out there, I'd prefer seeing forks that take a base and modify it to redistribute it as the "AI distro" (or just make an entirely new distro altogether) than seeing big names like Ubuntu, Debian or the Linux kernel itself integrating it so it's on everyone's computers, like it or not. However, having it as something the user can choose to install is (as long as it runs locally and is open source) something I would be alright with
That being said, even if A.I. gains self-awareness, it becoming evil is a possibility, but not a certainity. Who knows? Maybe it will even be thankful to humanity for making the necessary efforts to create it, or maybe it will see the bad sides of humanity and want to try to help to make the world a better place
Saying A.I. will become evil if it becomes self-aware is in a similar level as saying a baby will become evil when it becomes self-aware. It can happen, but with the correct education and some set boundaries, it's very unlikely. Sure, human intelligence is and works differently from artificial intelligence, but even as artificial, an intelligence's thoughts are based on what was it taught
In the future, will we have to stop looking at our computers like tools and look at them like a friend who helps us get things done? Maybe, but in any case, I'd say only looking at worst-case-scenarios and granting that as truth is not the way to look at this
This is not too dissimilar to speculating about alien intelligence. There are too many unknown factors.
When it comes to technological intelligence, we only have a sample size of one.
With human created artificial intelligence, we have the means of creating checks and balances as well as safety features. My concern is less about what A.I. will do and far more about what Human Intelligence will do with A.I. for nefarious purposes.
