Do y'all think that is Vivaldi Browser safe?

Let me know! I'm curious about y'all answer to this, do you think it's safe to use and why?

As it says in the screenshot, its a web browser for techies, people who love to tinker, customize all aspects of the browser. It says it comes with encryption, I believe to be safe, especially because its in the software store.

Keep in mind as well, open source software is easily viewable by programmers, who can view the code. If there were anything odd about it, people would know.

Firefox & Chrome should be what your worried about, their malicious privacy infringing nightmares!

Honestly don't know if Vivaldi is safe. But then again, don't know if Brave is safe either. Firefox is the only strong Chromium contender, and its offshoots, like Librewolf, Tor and Mullvad etc, are pretty good.
Mozilla makes deals with Google to survive, but neither Google nor Firefox expects you to keep Google as the default search engine.
The telemetry settings aren't difficult to uncheck, yet people still complain.

So, if these two browsers have the same level of privacy, where to find this panel in Chrome.

And an interesting read: contrachrome.com

I personally would not trust Vivaldi as it is NOT fully open source. As for Firefox all one needs to do is go into the settings and switch off the telemetry, problem solved (mostly) or use Firefox forks eg Waterfox, Librewolf, Floorp, Firedragon, Zen etc. Chrome should be completely avoided (Edge as well) instead use Chromium or Ungoogled Chromium or the stripped down version of Brave Zorin ships with.

Interesting discussion.
some more info and opinions about Vivaldi would be nice though  :innocent:

Point well taken.
I have separated out the posts to be in a more fitting topic and reopened that thread:

Privacy Tests does regular vetting of the most used browsers including Vivaldi.

You can carry out your own tests with BrowserAudit

Got the same result as you with this one taken from Vivaldi which is a fresh install and stock settings .....

Most of those warnings are innocuous.
Many are just that Audio is set to "sef' rather than piped through a device that can be fully disabled.
Or about scripts and forms that webpages use to run - including the Zorin Forum.

They give a whole bunch of results several pages worth I only copied 2 from their website there were many more .... this is from the Vivaldi test .....

I'm not even going to pretend I understand what they all mean someone a lot smarter than me can figure it out ..... LOL

You can see the scripts and forms I mentioned above.

The other is about websocket being defined with src-default which is not very narrow or strict.

A lot like scripts - it is a game of catch-22; where if you narrow that too much, websites likely will not function.

Yeah, Vivaldi is safe. It’s built on Chromium, gets regular updates, and doesn’t track your data. As long as you keep it updated, you’re good.

Note: results are with Browser default settings.

EDIT: I should have said, you can turn off telemetry and remove Google as default search in FF, which would be much better than default browser settings. But Libre-Wolf does that, and more, out of the box.

This has been an enlightening discussion especially since there has been much criticism of certain browsers (such as Vivaldi) as to their security and privacy trustworthiness. I think this thread will silence a lot of those objections.

I agree .....
Just to make my self a little clearer I'm not criticizing Vivaldi as I also have that on my laptop ..... the reason I showed both of some of the results is because I do run both and one item difference is not a deal breaker in my opinion .... I ran Vivaldi for years s my daily driver .... now I just use Brave with Vivaldi back-up ....

Vivaldi uses end-to-end encryption to protect your data from being accessed by third parties. And as an added bonus, Vivaldi hosts your browsing data on-premises in Iceland, where it's covered by strict privacy law.
Vivaldi does not profile your behavior, or sell your data. The sites you visit, what you type in the browser, your downloads,
Privacy matters. Vivaldi comes with a built-in tracker and ad blocker to protect your browsing. You’re in control of how much or how little you want to block. Vivaldi has called fo.r a ban on surveillance-based advertising. It’s time to free ourselves from constant surveillance and highly personalized targeting of users on the internet.
I have been using Vivaldi for many years. No it is not open source. It has 18 pages of settings that are propriety making it the most customizable and feature rich browser out there.
