Is it possible to have the icons on the bottom dock zoom larger when you scroll over them? If not, that would be a good suggestion.

You could try a different desktop layout and use plank dock which includes icon zoom,theming, auto hide and so on. I use a top panel layout with plank on Zorin core.

Cairo-Dock used to be able to do this but when I installed it on VM of Zorin it does not stick on logon which means having to start it up again.
