Hi, I'm on Zorin 17 (core), and it comes with Wayland and X11. I use the Wayland session only, and run Conky through the XWayland compatibility layer. This is how Conky can actually draw images in Wayland since one of its dependencies, imlib2, doesn't work with it (i think). My question is, does Zorin 18 come with XWayland by default? I'd like to upgrade and keep my Conky theme's running.
Also, my theme has clickable elements (native Conky feature), that I think works through xinput, and because of that, would only work with XWayland on Wayland (pasted image of my theme so you can see what I'm talking about, blurred stuff because I don't wanna doxx myself)
Hi there, welcome to the Zorin OS forums!
Yes, Zorin OS 18 comes with both Wayland and Xorg installed (Wayland is the default, however). I haven't tried Conky myself, so I can't say if everything else will work as it does already in Z17, but others have and things seem to run normally.
You could try to run a virtual machine to test things out before hand, or maybe even through the live USB before installing anything. If you have your Conky configuration saved online on Gitlab or something similar, you might be able to test it easier.
Welcome to the Forum!
Yes, Zorin 18 comes with Wayland and Xorg. For Your Conky Setup, I would suggest to create a bootable USB Stick with Zorin 18, start it and use the ''Try Zorin'' Mode then You can install and set up Your Conky Stuff to check if it will work - at least when it doesn't require a Reboot.
The answer is yes, Zorin OS 18 comes with X11, as well as Wayland. If using Nvidia GPU, recommend selecting X11 AKA, Zorin OS Desktop, as Wayland is not ready for prime time.
hell yeah, thanks a lot! Zorin is amazing
