DP signal slow to return after the monitor is off for several minutes

I've see a small issue with Zorin, doubtful it is unique to Zorin though.

I have a Radeon GPU, connected to an OLED monitor over DP. This monitor has a self-care cycle thing that ultimately ends with it turning off.

It's a little inconsistent but I've noticed that if I've left it off for a while (likely more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time), while the PC is still on and had been on the entire time, then turn the monitor back on the display can take quite a while to come back.

The monitor will show no dp signal. Most of the time I seem to be able to coax it back but there is a significantly notable delay compared to when this happened on Windows.

By comparison, if I stay at the computer and even just wiggle the mouse every couple minutes until it finishes, then I have a much easier time getting the display back.

I do have monitor time out settings active, but I would also note that when this screen off happens normally (while the monitor is still on) I don't see the same issue waking the screen. At least not that I have noticed so far.

hello,
did you try to disable the monitor's self-care cycle if you can find that setting in the monitor's OSD menu, this could fix the problem.

No, because I want it. This doesn't solve a problem.

do you use Wayland or Xorg ? in terminal do

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

Do you have a HDMI Port, too? If yes, try it with this and see if it behaves different. Also: How long is the Cable? Do You use any Adapters or Docks?

Wayland

You can try to switch to Xorg:

  • At the login screen, click your username (don't enter password)
  • Click the gear icon in the bottom right
  • Select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg"
