Dual boot on Windows 11 password problems

Ok, so now I'm wanting to install Zorin alongside windows on my newer laptop. Had some problems with that but now it's on there.
But.... another problem!

When I installed Zorin, I thought checking "login automatically" would make it so that the password wouldn't have to be put in every time turning on/coming back. So, I looked for a solution in the forum and found something somewhere that I can't find again for some reason.

I want to change the password to something simpler (why I didn't do that in the first place is beyond me) but I did find a suggestion to go into the terminal and do a sudo command and something else and it prompted a password change. When I tried that, nothing showed up in the terminal as I typed. No asterisks or anything to show that I was typing anything. But I hit enter and it seemed to be doing something but my passwords didn't match when I retyped. Tried again a few times and got what I thought was what I wanted, but apparently it's not. Neither the old password or the new one will work to open things up.

How am I supposed to get back in there if I can't log in? Am I going to need to reinstall alongside Windows 11? If so, am I going to be able to put it on over the "old" Zorin so that there's only one choice of Zorin along with windows?

I'd like to just install Zorin only on it, but can't just yet...
Thanks

OK. I had an issue with a recent install, as I needed to get to advanced recovery mode, and the default now is no longer to show GRUB at boot time, just the glowing 'Z' icon and the animated 'ZORIN'. To get the GRUB menu to show (I know on hindsight I could have edited the GRUB config file) I booted off the Ventoy thumb drive and used Try Zorin to get to the Live Desktop. I ran Boot Repair and this made the changes for me with 10 second delay while GRUB is shown. Once this occurred I could select 'Advanced Options for Zorin, select that and then choose recovery mode. When the menu appears you need to select 'Terminal with root permissions' (think it is last menu item.
Once you have launched the Terminal press the Enter key to continue and you will see machine name followed by ’#:' which means you now have root privileges.

Now enter the following:

mount -n -o remount,rw

then press enter, then

passwd [your username]

A prompt should appear for you to enter your new password, write it down on paper before entering it. Be careful as there won't be any indication on screen of what you enter and no dots or asterisks when you enter each character. Once done press Enter and you will receive a request to re-type the new password. Hit enter again and if your second verification has worked you will see a message saying:

passwd changed successfully

Then shut down the machine and reboot.

If you want a permanent reminder, this process is given in the Unofficial Manual for Zorin 17 Core as the 'de facto' solution for the login loop scenario.

If You not annoyed to reinstall it, it would be a Solution, yes. You could do it in different Ways. Let's try the Following:

Start the USB Stick with Zorin on it and choose ''Install Zorin''. When You come to the Installation Options choose ''Something else''. there you see a Partition Table. Click on Your Zorin Partition and delete it. Then use the free Space and set the Mounting Point / and format it to ext4.
