Dual Boot only boots Windows

I've got a similar problem - installed Zorin Core alongside Windows 8.1. I got the option to boot into Zorin or Windows on the first re-boot and never since - only Windows boots now. Disabled Fast Boot and Secure Boot. Also booted from USB and ran the Boot Repair w/o luck. It generated an error file but it's all greek to me  In BIOS, no Zorin options are shown in boot priority and the F12 boot manager only shows the Windows option.

You can now reboot your computer.
Please do not forget to make your UEFI firmware boot on the Zorin OS 16.2 (16) entry (sda2 file) !
If your computer reboots directly into Windows, try to change the boot order in your UEFI firmware.
If your UEFI firmware does not allow to change the boot order, change the default boot entry of the Windows bootloader.

Gday @Bugermeister , Welcome to the community!

Can you tell us your machine Specs?

When installing Zorin OS did you disable Fast boot/startup, before your installation?

Did you boot windows after installing zorin? Did anything get updated after booting into windows?

Is the zorin install is fresh or are you able to create a reliable backup? Rather than trying to perform any kind of rescue, you might consider reinstalling it after making sure your windows install is all the way up-to-date.

I only say this because it's maybe possible that windows hijacked your bootloader after an update it tried to push.

 1. On Windows 10, boot into UEFI settings as follows:
2. Open Settings
3. Update and Security
4. Recovery
5. Advanced Startup > Restart now
6. Troubleshoot
7. Advanced Options
8. UEFI Firmware settings
9. Go to the boot tab of the UEFI settings
10. Move the Linux bootloader (GRUB or rEFInd) above the Windows 10 bootloader (instructions to do this are usually at the bottom of the screen)
11. Save and reboot

Appreciate the responses so far - I have been surfing forums all day yesterday and today decided to try a few things, including some of the things Aravisian has posted here and elsewhere. Short recap:

Aspire V15 Nitro laptop, 1TB drive, 16G DRAM, NVidia 840M w/2G VRAM

I installed Zorin 16.2 Core using the default installer - I let it do everything other than choosing how much space to allocate to the Zorin (roughly 290GB). It installed fine, I rebooted, but I was never given a boot option, it booted directly to Windows 8.

Forum posts were full of possibilities, lots of them with complicated fixes. I DID turn off fast boot as well as Secure Boot but these did not help. The problem seemed to be that in the BIOS boot priority list, there were NO options for Zorin, only the standard list of Windows, flash drive, CD, etc. This was key when I finally ran across a post about a "trusted EFI file". I don't even know what this is but sure enough, I figured out how to access that in the BIOS and dug into where the Ubuntu EFI files were.

Not knowing which one(s) to pick, I picked the one labeled 'grub' and on reboot was able to get the grub menu to show up finally. But neither Zorin nor Windows selections worked - it gave another error about a missing "shim" file, which was another one that I had noticed in the EFI list. I added that one as 'trusted' as well and now both OS's load just fine.

This was 98% luck on my part as I know next to nothing about Linux, dual booting or even most of the contents of my BIOS.

For now, everything works, thanks!

Glad you fixed it :+1:
Yes Disabling secure boot will cause SHIM errors.
