Hey guys! i installed Zorin OS 17.3 Core yesterday, and all went well....however, the OS doesn't seem to recognise my second monitor....I read several topics in the forum to find a solution, but found none....
here my setup:
Hardware model: HP Pavillon Desktop 590
memory: 16 GIB
processor: AMD A9-9425 radeon r5, 5 compute cores 2c + 3g x 2
graphics: STONEY (stoney, LLVM 15.0.7, DRM 3.57, 6.8.0-60-generic)
disk capacity: 1.1T
OS name: Zorin OS 17.3 Core
OS type: 64-bit
Windowing System: Wayland
any help or support would be greatly appreciated, as I am new to the Linux world, but I eager to learn how to fix this and make my second screen work!
Both ny screens are Dell 17''..... was all working fine when i was on window 10....I'm sure I'm missing something simple...
If secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS are enabled, please take them off.
If you have dualboot with Windows also turn off fast startup in Windows.
You could try to switch to Xorg (reboot and then when loginscreen appears, click on your username, a cog icon on the screen is displayed and there you can set "Zorin desktop on Xorg).
When Xorg is installed you can use xrandr (a terminal program to set up multiple monitors) or install arandr (this is a gui for xrandr) to manage monitors.
Also check the cables (some only function in one direction).
hey! thank you for your help! i've done all you mentioned (boot bios disable, no dualboot with windows, i switched to Xorg and in terminal this the message i got:
-$ xrandr

As Zorin 17 is a fork of Ubuntu 22.04 I used that in my search criteria that came back with this:
HP Pavilion 590 Dual Monitor Issue
The HP Pavilion desktop 590 p0024 has been reported to have issues with dual monitors not working correctly under Ubuntu 22.04. Users have encountered problems where only one monitor is detected, and the second monitor does not function as expected.4 This issue might be related to the hardware capabilities of the system, as some users have suggested that the VGA port might be phased out, and the motherboard may not support both HDMI and VGA simultaneously.4
For users experiencing similar issues with Ubuntu 22.04, it is recommended to check for updates and ensure that the system is up to date, as this can sometimes resolve display detection problems.6 Additionally, updating the BIOS and graphics drivers can also help in resolving such issues.4 If the problem persists, it might be necessary to consider installing a dedicated GPU card to support the second monitor, especially if the onboard graphics are not sufficient.4
If you are facing issues with multiple displays not working correctly after an upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04, some users have found that configuring the xorg.conf file with the appropriate BusIDs for the graphics cards can resolve the issue, allowing both displays to work correctly.1 However, this solution is specific to Ubuntu 24.04 and may not apply to Ubuntu 22.04.
thank you for sharing! my HP is a pavillon 590-a0xxx, and dual monitors worked fine with window 10 without changing anything...i guess there is a solution....but so far I can't find it....
Is this your second monitor?
Some HDMI cables are One Direction Only. If reversed, it won't work. Since the time it worked on Windows, has that monitor been disconnected and reconnected, reversing the cable?
hello! yes HDMI-A-0 it is the second monitor, and I didn't disconnected, reconnected or reverse the cable, all i did is installed Zorin .... i didn't touch any hardware
