Dvd movie menu sound but no other video or sound

I'm running 16.1 the hardware seems fine - plays the copyright warnings but no movie video (I guess not encrypted?) When the movie is attempted I get the title and intro menu sound but no video and no other video selection will play (sound or video). The last terminal log is below if that helps or gives anyone a clue...

Thanks , Larry

Can you ensure that Software resitricted by copyright is checked as follows:

Check that you are on Main Server.
Then try installing

sudo apt update && sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras

in addition to what you are performing?
Reboot and test...

Thanks for the clue - I switched to the main server from the U.S. server and did the install. The result is still the same unfortunately... I attempted a different DVD movie and it did play some video with the makers logo and such, but no movie video or audio. It would seem we are on the right track. I post the terminal session below for your info, perhaps something will stick out? It seems to want info from the DVD but it is just a movie. This is a new install (a couple weeks) from a thumb drive. Thanks again - Larry (I reversed the http so it would post - I have a 5 link limit :-))

In Software & Updates, please UNCheck the box for using the CDROM as a source.
And you do have libdvdread7 libdvdread4 libdvdnav4 libdvd-pkg installed, right?
Might try:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg

Thanks for the reply Aravisian:
Yes I have ibdvdread7 libdvdread4 libdvdnav4 libdvd-pkg installed. Software & Updates does not have a check box for the DVD source it just says it will use it and no options.... (the other options all have checkboxes) I lost my start menu bar and all other menu from the desktop as well?? Makes it kinda klunky to get around as its been a Long while since I dealt with Linux... I can say I really do not remember much.
I will run sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg just in case - I 'think' I already ran that - I might be at the point of blowing it away and starting over with a clean install.... I am not very prompt with my reply due to my home burning completely to the ground. So there is much on my plate that I did not count on! Otherwise the OS is working fine - very quick -its not on slow hardware and its the lite version.

By all means, please take care of yourself and all that you have on your plate, there.
If your Panel Bar is missing, in addition to the other issue - I would probably go the route of a fresh install, too.

Have you ever used one of these in your DVD-RW?:

But because of other issues might be worth reinstalling - what are the specs of your machine? Make and model would help!

It is a Dell workstation, has 8 cpu and 16 gig ram - I put a new 500 gig SSD. It came with win 11 but I did not wish to use that. I got it on ebay used, i really did not want something new I could not run the OS of my choice on! I was a teck for most of my working life - (even had an electronic workbench in my former home) I was also an ISP in Alaska for about 5 years when the internet was new. Hence my somewhat familiarity with Linux (bandwidth mgr, caching server, as well as other OS types (no windows). - a long time ago... That is what I will do, a new install I mean. I usually take the drive apart and clean the lense manually rather than a cleaning disk or such. I have a mechanic shop and used compressed air to clean the dust out. Probably done it to hundreds of machines for customers. Just do not touch the fan blades :-). Anyhow thanks for your help! I think we can close this thread!
