Epic Games Store finally getting a native Linux client "sometime soon"

Epic confirmed during a Discord AMA that they're working on a native Linux client for the Epic Games Store. The news came from an Epic staff member, and Tim Sweeney later commented on it as well.

The client won't be part of the upcoming launcher preview build though - Epic first needs to finish a bigger overhaul of the launcher framework (moving away from the current Unreal Engine based one to something new).

No release date yet, just "soon". Also unclear whether they'll use Proton/Wine to run Windows games or if it'll be limited to native Linux titles only. There's also the EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) problem - without it, Fortnite and similar games will still be unplayable on Linux even with an official client.

Until then, Heroic Games Launcher remains the best way to access your Epic library on Linux.

I have my doubts about Epic...their controversial past makes me wary.

I've gone back to Windows many times because I just can't get used to it, but so far I've managed to stick with Linux for three weeks again.

Every 3 months(quarter) linux gets better and better with games. I play honkai star rail on its own launcher and the rest is on steam these ones

these keep me busy...mostly play honkai star rail was playing star trek fleet command but that games is have problems with new owners and direction of game...so i left after 6 years of playing
