Erreurs ACPI,PCIe

Hello,

I've come to see you because I have ACPI errors, in particular that create instability with all the Linux distributions I've tried to install.

I've tried to install Debian,Arch,Ubuntu LTS, and finally ZorinOS of all the distributions I've tried, only Zorin seems to be more stable. ) as to why this stability is so important, but I'd like you to confirm them or not.

I'm in contact with ASUS support as I speak and they advised me to check with you as this is a Linux specific problem.

I'm attaching the logs I get with any Linux distri, including ZORIN.

And an image of my BIOS fans running wild (confirming, in my opinion, a problem with the ACPI).

ASUS advised me to talk to you about this beforehand to find out if other users have encountered similar problems.

Many thanks in advance

Here's some feedback you might find useful.

I see from your logs appears to be this model of laptop:
ASUS-TUF-Gaming-A15-FA506NCR-FA506NCR
Could you confirm that for us? Also, could you give some specifics as to what specs your model has (CPU model, ram, hdd/sdd, gpu etc)? I've found it hard to find exactly which specs this model is (because websites suck nowadays for finding that stuff sometimes lol).

Could you also explain exactly what kind of instability you're experiencing? Like does the system crash, does it lockup every few minutes and then unfreeze? Just more information helps us get you hopefully an answer.

I looked through your log and I only found two errors
AE_ALREADY_EXISTS,

AE_NOT_FOUND

They did repeat and there was another minor warning about ACPI.

These deal with your ACPI Tables and are actually harmless. I get these same messages. The cause is due to missing or mismatched values in your BIOS ACPI tables compared to what the kernel is expecting. If the value is not found, or already is in use, the system falls back to good values, continuing forward.

If you are experiencing stability issues, please outline those in detail as requested by @applecheeks37 so we can try to diagnose that actual cause and see if there is a solution.

By the way, you posted four links but all of them only link to the ACPI log, not Nvidia or DMESG

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in replying, indeed some details are missing as much for me.

  • More details below:

Here is the feedback from a lspci --> here

I was running Arch Linux Under this distribution, I had 2 sudden shutdowns for no reason (battery charged and on mains) at 24-hour intervals, and when I restarted, the time and date of the distribution in question had changed.

I've also had problems waking up from standby on this distribution, when I closed the cover of my computer, it suddenly stopped responding when I opened the cover again (black screen slightly lit by the slab), no more tty, forced to switch off using the power button. This issue is not present on Zorin. In fact, apart from the increased power consumption due to the kernel (see below), there are no major bugs on Zorin. (Except for some Bluetooth instability, which can be seen in the logs below, and an HDMI issue, but these are not as serious as the sudden shutdowns or the PC becoming unresponsive when the lid is closed.)

The hood also behaved under Windows, which also confirmed ACPI problems.

All the distributions I installed (with the exception of Zorin) revealed, via htop, excessive and abnormal CPU consumption (between 80 and 120%) even though nothing had been installed yet (I tried GNOME, and CINNAMON).

I also tried to install Ubuntu under budgie, which simply refused to start the graphical interface (photo of the logs for this distri below):

Actions taken since:

Updated the BIOS, which resolved ACPI issues on Windows.

Stress test performed on Windows using OCCT (RAM + VRAM + CPU + GPU) for 1 hour, and it did not reveal any issues.

On Linux:

Shorter stress test (20 minutes) on CPU + GPU, which also did not reveal any issues. (Note: I am not very familiar with the stress test tool I used (s-tui) on Linux, so if you know of any alternatives, please let me know!)

Added the acpi_os parameter in GRUB, setting it to Windows 2020 to see if the errors in the logs disappeared, but that was not the case.

Stress tests using memtest86+ (explicitly requested by ASUS despite my previous stress tests) did not reveal any issues either.

For the rest, I'm not sure if the behavior is abnormal, but I’ll share it anyway:

When I enable Performance mode on Zorin, my fans spin very fast, but no process is responsible for the increased speed. I assume this is "expected" behavior? I don’t recall this happening with another PC in the past, but maybe that’s just how it is...

Installed another kernel on Zorin (6.12.3-061203-generic via mainline), and here, the same thing happened as on previous Linux distributions: the processor spiked for no apparent reason. (However, this behavior is "normal" in this case, since the selected kernel is unstable. On the other distributions, the default kernel was supposed to be more stable...)

Attached are the various logs and photos corresponding to what I just described.
