Error while upgrading Zorin OS: AttributeError 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'upgrade_broken'

When I run the do-release-upgrade command in the terminal, I receive the following error message:

Checking for a new Ubuntu release
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/do-release-upgrade", line 164, in <module>
    if m.new_dist.upgrade_broken:
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'upgrade_broken'

I have already taken the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Ensured that my package lists are up to date using sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade.
  2. Cleaned the package cache with sudo apt clean.

I am currently running Zorin OS 16.2

You shall not want to run the dist-upgrade command.

The do-release-upgrade command would install Ubuntu over your Zorin OS installation and Remove Zorin OS from your computer - if it worked.

The ZorinGroup is actively developing a Direct Upgrade option for Zorin OS.
