Extra panel added after closing laptop lid

When i close the lid of my laptop and later reopen it and login i get a extra workspace panel ontop of my original Zorin os panel. How can i prevent that from happening or get rid of that panel?

Welcome to the Forum!

Could You make a Screenshot of this?

Here is the screenshot. It is not only when i close the lid. It also happens when it goes to powersave/rest mode and you have to login again.

Do you have any other desktop environments installed perchance? Or possibly any other Panels that you may have installed?

No i did not install another panel. When i change the panel in Zorin appearance the extra panel is gone.

When i change the layout to the dock layout it shows the same workspace panel.

Do You have any Third-Party Gnome Extensions installed?

No i have not installed any extensions.

Okay, let's try a Reinstall:

sudo apt reinstall zorin-appearance zorin-appearance-layouts-support zorin-appearance-layouts-shell-core

After that make a Reboot.

What graphics cards do you have?
You could try to switch to Xorg if you are on Wayland.
Logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg".

This did not solve the problem.

I have a HP Elitebook laptop with a Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics (RPL-U) graphics card. Switching to Xorg also did not solve the problem.

I just did a websearch using "Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics (RPL-U) Ubuntu 24.04", but nothing really stood out as a simple solution.

I am wondering if a later kernel is needed for that hardware.

Do you also have this problem when you go manually into suspend by pressing the button in start menu?

Hmm ... Okay, maybe it is the Taskbar specific. Let's try this:

sudo apt reinstall gnome-shell-extension-zorin-taskbar

Reboot after this.

I found out that the windows list extension was toggled on. When i swtiched it off the problem was gone.

I also can't use this extension - it disturbs my desktop layout and makes a strange panel.
