''Fake'' Linus tries Linux again

He tries it again - and chooses again POP_OS!

I find him too annoying to watch, but this once I'll give it a go...
Pop is one that I missed on my temporary trip round Linux distros, but having tried a number recently (after wiping Windows for the last time - the legendary wipe-from-space) I found none better than Zorin. I'm of the opinion that there is no kudos in trying a difficult distro (yes, I mean Arch) - all I want is a productive and stable OS, not one that vampires my days with abstruse demands to use the terminal (though I do when necessary). My particular installation of Zorin has an annoying sudden crash (an abrupt black screen, stone dead, but reboots fine in 30 seconds). I can live with that rather than spend yet more hours of my life trying to fix it.

watching him rn!

I already saw it yesterday, yes. I would agree that these Lists are ... the People shouldn't take them too serious. Maybe as a Tip what you could try but not for ''Replace Windows with this immediately!''. That is in common not a good Way to handle the Switch in my Opinion.

And the Category ''Gaming Distro'' is a Thing, too. I wouldn't see Pop OS as a Gaming Distro. There, I would name:

  • Nobara
  • Bazzite
  • CachyOS

You can add more Names to that but these would be my Suggestion if someone searches for a ''Gaming Distro'' - a Distro with Gaming in Focus.

I had to learn the hard way, that POP OS, is a terrible distro for gaming. Constant problems, all the time. POP pushing latest and greatest, breaks system. POP OS loading computer with 20 kernels, all of which won't load the system but one, and use up precious drive space for no reason. Whenever a big update rolls in, now computer doesn't boot, requiring me to spend precious time trying to fix.

Literally, all the problems with POP OS, has caused a family member, to only use their notebook, when they want to game on Half Life 2. They don't use their computer for nothing else. And more recently, now the computer won't plat any other game but HL2! I can't find the issue, and after wasting a freaking hour trying to figure it out, I gave up.

You know what they do all their other computing on? A tablet running Android. Yep, you heard that correct! Why? Cause its a million times easier for them, and its way more portable of a device as well. They are not computer savvy techs to fix problems, so if I can't fix it, they surely cna't.

Their tablet rarely crashes, maybe once per year at most. And when it does, you just stick a paper clip in the hole, literally a person with an IQ of 50 could do that! You don't need to be an outright genius to figure that out.

I've never tried Bazzite, I only heard of that like a year ago. From what I've heard however, sounds like its more of a gamers OS then POP OS is. Whether or not I install Bazzite or Mint in the future, depends on my research I do, when I am ready to make changes.

As of right now however, Zorin OS 18, has become a very well known disappointment in the community, and I am not going to put myself in another position, where I have to fight tooth and nail, to fix problems with my computer, when I should be spending my time on fixing engines, and mowing lawns, to make a living.

Thats all I have to say about that...

I wouldn't see Pop OS as a Gaming Distro at all. I can understand that People see it that Way abecause it offers current Kernels and Drivers. But I don't see this because of Gaming. I see this because they sell PC's and Laptops. And these have current Hardware. And when their own OS wouldn't be up-to-date enough to run on their Hardware that would be a big Problem.

LOL he tryed Pop OS last time and it failed...so what did he do....went right back to Pop OS.. talk about dumb.. its almost like he trying to show linux dont work at all.

I removed the last thing because it is an Insult. And at least: He tries it again.

This is the danger of the Z generation that haven't had the depth and experience of the breadth of GNU/Linux distributions.
I remember having been told to dispose of a Toshiba Satellite Pro, the early ones like a brick had low memory, a small drive and a floppy disk.

I tried booting off an external DVD/CD-RW drive. There was no option in the BIOS. It would have been a Windows 95 notebook.

Solution?

And what distribution did I use?
Wolvix, possibly Wolvix Cub.

https://archiveos.org/get/download-wolvix.html

Why? Because I could drill-down into the correct graphics settings and that worked. I suspect the current generation would not have a clue how to get an old rig working again.

More recently I recycled an i-686 machine with 512 Mb RAM and no 64-bit OS would install. Solution?

Which community?
I can't even remember the last time I saw a negative review about Zorin.

Right. I've tried a dozen distros over the years, including half a dozen since first installing Zorin as my main OS replacing Windows, and not a single one has come even close to the ease of the Zorin experience. Sure, there are rough spots - permissions on my hard drives and even local partitions drive me insane - but overall Zorin is without doubt (in my experience) the best distro introduction to Linuxworld. People who proclaim disappointment are approaching it with the wrong mindset. In my humble opinion.
