File extensions on files

Hello,

I have noticed that when creating files in Zorin OS some programs will not automatically put a file extension on the file and this messes things up when the file is used elsewhere. Two examples are I created an .mkv file for my Plex server but it wasn't showing up. I soon realized there was no file extension. Then I was transferring a picture (.jpg) from my computer to my phone using KDE Connect but it wasn't going to the right place on my phone, again no file extension.

In both cases I manually added the correct extension and both problems were fixed. My question is this, is there a way to get Zorin to do this automatically? I'm used to Windows just doing it when a file was saved. If I have to re-train myself to pay attention to this that's OK, it is just an annoyance more than anything.

Thanks,
Rich

When you save a file, you usually have the dialog window open that includes naming that file, where you can name it with that extension. In general, the only time I think this does not apply is when you download a file and it is saved in that way, without a user dialog with the naming field.
