Fingerprint Issues

Hey, so I am accually running Zorin 18 beta for this now (Zorin 17 never even found the fingerprint module) but other wise think its a more general issue. So whenever I save my fingerprint and then lock the device and try to use it- it gets deleted... not sure why but went though the logs and found this:

Loveing Zorin 18 Beta so far!

Hi, doing a search I found:

" The error "Authorization denied to .142 to call method 'Claim' for device 'Egis Technology (LighTuning) Match-on-Chip': Device was already claimed" indicates that the fingerprint device is currently in use by another process or user session, preventing the current request from claiming it. This is a common issue in Linux systems using the fprintd daemon for fingerprint authentication, where only one process can claim a device at a time. The error can occur if another application or the system daemon has already claimed the device, or if there is a conflict between user sessions or background processes.

To resolve this, you can try stopping the fprintd service to release any existing claims:

sudo service fprintd stop

After stopping the service, attempt to claim the device again. If the issue persists, ensure no other fingerprint-related processes are running, such as those launched by the desktop environment (e.g., GNOME or KDE). Additionally, check for any pending system updates or known bugs related to fprintd and gnome-shell , as this specific error has been reported and fixed in newer versions of Ubuntu (e.g., in the "plucky" release). If the device is claimed by a different user session, logging out and back in, or restarting the system, may also resolve the conflict.

Did You take a Look in the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab in Software & Updates if there is a Driver offered?

yeah still didnt show anything

Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that in Settings>About. When it runs in Wayland, you could try it with swtiching to X11/Xorg.

To do that, go to the Login Screen, not the Lock Screen. Simply reboot for that. On the Login Screen, click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in.

Alright ill try that one sec.
Edit: Yeah no change, still does the same exact thing

also thanks for the help

Did You looked if the Manufacturer offers any Drivers? And is Your Machine an old one or a new one? When it is a relatively new one, it could be that You need a newer Kernel.

No I just realised, I found the wiki of which drivers work on Samsung Books and it shows that linux dosent support the fingerprint driver... then how is it working rn? Honestly idk im still kinda unexperianced in linux.

Now i tried the Termanal version

samgo@sam-galaxy-book:~$ fprintd-enroll
Using device /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0
Enrolling right-index-finger finger.
Enroll result: enroll-stage-passed
... [sam-**removed repeated lines **]
Enroll result: enroll-completed
samgo@sam-galaxy-book:~$ fprintd-verify
Using device /net/reactivated/Fprint/Device/0
Listing enrolled fingers:
 - #0: right-index-finger
Verify started!
Verifying: right-index-finger
Verify result: verify-no-match (done)

RIght when i entered verify it just desited to make no-match, i didnt even touch it. Logs just say it dosent know it

When it isn't supported ... then it will not work (properly). You could try it with a newer Kernel wich maybe supports Your Device ... but that is only a Guess.

yeah thats just weird when createing and saveing - the driver works but if its trying to accually use the key it dosent
