I recently switched from Fedora 42 to Zorin OS 18 on my Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1. But now, I've got issues with getting fingerprint login to work on my system. The option to select "fingerprint login" does not appear, even after adjusting the PAM authentication settings to enable it. (I've followed the guide in Zorin's documentation).
fprintd-enroll shows no devices available, meaning that, for some reason, fprintd is not recognizing my laptop's fingerprint devices. Other topics dealing with similar issues in the past have suggested it is because of incompatibility between the device and Linux. Now, I am very certain that this is not the case for my computer's fingerprint device, because Fedora 42 recognized my fingerprint device just fine. I got so used to using fingerprint login on Fedora that lacking it on Zorin is really annoying me.
Fedora is a more up-to-date OS (which is grounded in the Model). Did You checked the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab in Software & Updates in zorin if there is a Driver offered?
Could You post the Output of the Command lsusb please?
No additional drivers offered. And sure; here's the result of $ lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 17ef:f006 Lenovo Idea5003
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 10a5:c844 FPC FPC L:0003 FW:2832024
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 04f2:b7ed Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Integrated Camera
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 8087:0033 Intel Corp. AX211 Bluetooth
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
I believe 10a5:c844 is my fingerprint sensor, but I'm not sure.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't think it really helps me much--I already know it's a Zorin issue, not a general Linux issue (again, worked fine on Fedora), and fprintd definitely should recognize my device (10a5:c844 is in the supported list).
I suspect that it's probably an up-to-dateness thing, what with Zorin 18 being based on Ubuntu 24. If so, and if there's no easy way to update my drivers to more recent ones beyond what Zorin offers officially, I might have to switch back to Fedora or another rolling-release distro (despite how pretty Zorin is).
