Hi all, we have an issue. We want wo save Firefox as Standard Browser on a lenovo laptop. I did it the same way as on the desktop, but the setting isn't saved anyway. Every time i get out of settings and in Brave is the standard browser again. Additionally every second time of starting the laptop the google online account is als fading. On my desktop all this works fine. Do I have to erase the Brave at all, or is ther another way to get Firefox as standard? Thanks
Hi, and welcome.
I think the term you are looking for is 'Make Firefox default browser?'.
This should occur when you install Firefox.
I don't use Zorin OS but when it comes to installing any other browser, Firefox, zen (a fork of Firefox), IceCat or Tor, I prefer to download the tarball from the official browser site.
Once you have downloaded the tar.gz file, extract it into Downloads. Next, open the extracted folder and you will see a lot of files with a cog symbol. In your instance, click on the one named 'firefox'. This will launch the firefox browser and takes you through the usual questions which you can skip and start browsing. It should ask at first launch if you want to make it the default browser.
Now you cannot pin it to the Dash (panel) until you have manually created an entry using the Main Menu menu editor. Create a new instance under 'Internet'.
Name it Firefox and on the blank square where the icon should be, click on the blank square, click on 'browse' and it should take you to the folder you extracted. Open the folder 'browser', then 'chrome', then 'icons' - choose default64.png.
Next for the command box browse to the 'firefox' cog icon in the extracted folder. Don't forget to save changes to the menu.
If you still don't get a dialog box there is a setting in Firefox preferences/Settings that should say something like, "Check Firefox is default browser each time it starts".
It could be related to the package format in which Firefox is installed. Recently, there have been several reports from users that the .deb file from Firefox was converted into a snap package and then the snap version of Firefox was installed. This cannot be easily set as the default application (I suspect this is the case, as it is often reported with flatpaks).
So you could first check whether Firefox is installed as a Flatpak or snap. Take a look at the list if firefox is shown there.

Welcome to the Forum!
To check 2 Things:
- When You go to Settings>Apps, you can set up the Standard-Applications. Is there Mozilla Firefox chosen?
- When You go in the Firefox Settings and there on the General Tab, You have directly at the Top a Button to make Firexox to Your standard Browser. Did you pressed that?
Not the OP, but did notice Brave opening instead of Firefox sometimes, which says "Firefox is currently your default browser" on the Firefox settings page.
Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Web says "Firefox"
Next time Brave opens (if it does), I'll make note of how that happened...I can't test it now because I don't remember what I was doing when it happened.
Test if setting at the desktop level, instead of Firefox's internal check works:
xdg-settings set default-web-browser firefox.desktop
Thanks i will check that. On my other pc i checked and i saw tgat i uninstalled brave in the end, so no more possibility to choose that as standard application:see_no_evil_monkey:![]()
