Firefox file size when updating

Hello, some guy here. Using Zorin 16 planning to update to 17 after I slap a new SSD in it, I always update when the system says so, last time today 12/11/24. Looking at the file size of the Firefox update it was surprising to see it was just 2/3 of the usual file size (about 100 MB and now a slim 66 MB).

Is this legit? How can that be? How did they shrink it that much?

Posting the same question @Mozilla & not running it till it gets clarified.

Log data as follows: firefox:amd64 (132.0+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1, 133.0+build2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1)

Welcome to the Forum!

Because You are using Zorin 16, this is based on Ubuntu 20.04 and there Firefox comes from Canonical/Ubuntu. And how they shrink that is more a Question for them.

Mozilla has made there own Repo where You can download and install Firefox. On the new Zorin 17.2 Version this Repo is already added to the System. So, You get there Firefox directly from Mozilla.

Many many thanks. I indeed thought of deleting this copy and downloading it directly from Mozilla, it's just doctor appointments that kept me forgetting it.

So I can assume my actual copy is legit? I'd rather use it as-is while I install the new ssd. I've already test driven Z 17 and it already solves the issue of the no-name BT dongle with which I have a tug of war.

Greetings and Merry Christmas!!
