Firefox freezes on startup and becomes unresponsive

For about a week, Firefox has frequently frozen during startup. The restored tabs remain only partially loaded: a few display their favicons, while most do not, and Firefox soon becomes completely unresponsive. Multiple profiles affected.

Starting Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode does not resolve the issue. Refreshing the profile helps only temporarily: Firefox starts normally, and I can open a few pages, but after restarting it in normal mode, it may freeze again.

Firefox forum is silent about the issue (not found related issue).

What could be causing this, and which profile files or settings should I check or reset without losing my bookmarks, settings, and open tabs?

Zorin OS 18.1 Education
Firefox 152.0.3 (64-bit)

I found this reddit thread:

Maybe it helps to go back to a previous version or to wait for an update.

In which package format is firefox installed on your system?

Sometimes it also helps to disable hardware acceleration in the browser settings when there are freezes.

It is the APT package to Zorin OS via Software (App Store).

There has been an update to Zorin this morning, accomplished after my OP. After restarting the OS, all Firefox profiles start up with no incident.

It sounds as it is a firefox issue. I'm not sure if an update for the apt package of firefox already is available. In this bugtracker you also find informations:

But there is written that the problem in version 152.03 is solved, so I don't know if it is maybe a new problem.

Try to start Firefox in Troubleshoot mode to see if that helps until there will be an update. Here is a guide how to do this:

I am having my own issues with Firefox not working on startup. Seems like you have a bit more trouble though. For me I just close it out and wait a few minutes. Then restart. Seems to work, maybe a few restarts. I do prefer Firefox over Brave. Brave seems to be to restrictive, but I do use Brave when need be.
