I'm typing this from my phone because Firefox won't even load this forum on my laptop. Some websites like spotify still work for some reason, but most don't. I had to install chrome to use youtube and then I noticed that other websites don't work either and now I have to use them in chrome, too. the thing is, I really want to keep using firefox because firefox and the duckduckgo search engine have both been very helpful in avoiding all the ai features every other browser these days has been trying to push down my throat. so, how do I get firefox working again? it has only been like this after I updated it
I also think I need to specify that I sadly live in russia rn and most of the internet doesn't work here without a vpn anyways. the vpn I've been using for months has been malfunctioning on my laptop with zorin os for the last couple of days, some of its servers work fine but most don't and I have to reconnect or change servers every hour or so, but on every other device it's been working okay. all and all, I really don't think that the vpn or the general internet blocking that has been happening all around the country is at fault here. the problem is in either zorin or firefox.
Have you tryed uninstalling fire fox and reinstalling it? just asking you may have tryed this already. also are you using X11 or Wayland as your windowing system?
What VPN are you using? See if you can install RiseUp!
I would also look at installing Zen which is a fork of Firefox. I choose the tarball installation and you can see how to do that in this video.
I also prefer Mojeek over DuckDuckGo as the latter censors your searches whereas Mojeek does not.
like I said, I don't think this is a vpn issue. I've tried different vpns (v2raytun, nvpn, both made specifically for russians to use the internet freely) and it's all the same: chrome works, firefox doesn't
I didn't uninstall firefox, but I did install a new one when the previous one didn't even open until I updated it (I think the desktop file got lost somehow, at least that's what I think terminal said when I tried opening firefox via terminal). I thought that meant firefox got deleted off my laptop somehow, so I installed a new one and now I have 2 firefox browsers? bothof them open amd appear to be working like a normal browser but none of them load pages
idk anything about windowing systems, how do I check?
Since Chrome works...have you considered installing Brave since it's based on the Chromium engine that Chrome uses? At least Brave is more private than Chrome. You can easily turn off the AI on Brave as well.
A easy way is to click on the software icon, then click on the installed tab. There it shows you which packages of Firefox is installed (APT or Flatpak etc) and you can easily uninstall them as well.
I don't have the deb version of firefox in Software, I only have flatpak, apt or snap there. and I thought I used the flatpak one, but I've actually been using snap this whole time
Did you back up the passwords and bookmarks? You may want to before removing. In the Zorin software store, uninstall the SNAP version and Flatpak if you have those installed. Then you want to install the APT version.
I'm on Zorin 17.3 and I see the APT version. It should be in yours as well.
Sorry for the Misunderstanding. I meant APT. This is the .deb Version. So, I would suggest to uninstall the Flatpak Vrsion and then install the APT Version.
