First impressions with problems. Some broken, Some small

Moreso Microsoft and their draconian Windows 11 which has caused thousands if not millions flocking to linux freeing themselves from ai, copilot, and telemetry.

I have to say, you are not wrong. This was one of my thoughts when I bought Zorin OS 17 Pro and started to find out this and that. Same thing. But I adapted. Used Zorin OS 17 Pro after I fixed everything (and in the process, learned a lot about Linux as a newcomer). When Zorin OS 18 had the same problems, I was done. I moved on elsewhere. You have the same choice available to you. Good luck.

Hello, I agree with u on sticking with flatpack and bizarre since the same snaps problems was going with me, I think the other problem too is the gnome shell itself, Try using Gnome zXos shell (I don't remember it's name exactly) but it's more stable than the recent Gnome shell, u can open the shell customization too in Zorin os by using plasma (KDE), I tried using KDE and when I applied a new shell theme like ex: (coffee theme), It worked instantly when I opened Gnome shell later and it opened!, Idk why The latest Gnome is bad like this, but yeah I f u couldn't find peace using plasma or zXos then shift to mint, though I think I can find my path now since KDE opened the way for customizing the shell for me in Gnome again

It's clearly a Gnome shell problem as far as I understood from your 4 problems with the software, if u change it, most of these problems would solve, try xos the most stable Gnome shell available, it's easy to switch between them too(Xfce, plasma and Xos) sometimes the problem can be that u didn't use the launcher for a period of time, when I tried to open zorin os after I used windows LTSC for around 3 days without opening Linux once, it felt buggy but it worked fine the next day, as a switcher from windows 10 to LTSC and Linux, windows was hell for me, I had 4 GB in CPU and the device was like "screaming" just to open word or my favorite game, In the day that I opened the laptop I need to be ready to wait for it one or two hours to open the applications, ends every buggy stuff that opens, and try to "use" the dam applications!, with many times clicking "Ctrl+S" in hope not my work disappear after an accidental problem, I can never recommend anyone to launch windows 10 if he had a small capabilities like me, though maybe Zorin had problems, same sometimes with LTSC, but believe me, It's a "blessing" for me, I don't feel that Zorin is in some "bad glitches" since I tested something that really tested my nerves everyday just to finish my stuff - :smiling_face_with_tear:

@icecat55 Some of your critiques are absolutely valid. If you've found that KDE and Discover work well for you (or Mint with its software store), then certainly use those. You'll find that quite a few people in this forum don't use Zorin for their daily driver. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Zorin was the OS that helped me escape Windows, and for that I will always be grateful. But like you, I had some issues with it after about a year of use. So, I moved to Mint for a year. There's no distro with a software store that works as well and smoothly as Mint's.

I've been on Ubuntu with Gnome now for several months and am happy with that. As you noted, the heavy customization and extensions in Zorin can cause issues. I've had the best, most stable Gnome experience with Ubuntu.

For KDE, I was impressed with both Kubuntu and Fedora's KDE offerings. Neon was too unstable for me for daily use. I'm sure the main reason the Zorin brothers don't utilize KDE is because there's already so much work invested into their customized Gnome DE. But KDE is already very Windows-like. If Zorin went with Plasma one day, there would hardly be any tweaking or customization that would be necessary besides branding and logos.

Flapak should not be set as the default by the Gnome Software Store. How can any D.E. claim to be thinking of the End User when it behaves against the End User?
Time and time and time again, this is what ends up happening. The Isolated Flatpak cannot see the system it is supposed to work with.
