Fixing the Cirrus/HDA whatever sound issue

I'm going nuts trying to get sound fixed on 2017 macbook pro. I've had several days of going round in circles on ChatGPT. I would really appreciate some guidance.

apologies for the brevity, my cursor is also jumping randomly. I'm going to fix myself a drink.

Pulse Audio and pipewire are detecting audio when I play something in the browser if that helps. NOTHING is coming fromthe speakers or headphones

Hello,

Sorry to hear that, it can be frustrating trying to sort out the sound on a Macbook pro, I've been there before...
What have you tried so far?
Did you try to install the drivers from GitHub - davidjo/snd_hda_macbookpro: Kernel audio driver for Macs with 8409 HDA chip + MAX98706/SSM3515 amps ?
Also, if you install the "Volume Control" (pavucontrol) application. Then start it, go to "Output Device". Do you see "speakers" or "dummy output" ?
