Hi, the Linux based community has requested from NVIDIA support for the NVIDIA Broadcast application for years, with no results. NVIDIA broadcast allows you to remove background on video, do the eye contact correction (maintaining eyesight on camera), remove noise, etc.
My approach to this is different, I believe with the sunsetting of W10, there is an opportunity to make the case for renewed support to the NVIDIA linux community, so I have posted a business case aimed at NVIDIA management.
You can see it here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/broadcasting/18/562205/with-windows-10-sunsetting-this-year-it-is-relevan/
and I will post it complete here:
With Windows 10 sunsetting this year, it is relevant for NVIDIA to have a Broadcast App for Linux
Hi everyone, I am making this thread to share the BUSINESS CASE why it makes sense for NVIDIA to create a Broadcast application for Linux that can do "background removal" and "eye contact" with the camera. While this is something that the community has been asking for, where no competitor yet is doing this on PCs (althought in android and on SaaS platforms it is offered). Late in 2025 Windows 10 being decomissioned and will stop providing patches. This means that many computers running W10 and not willing to move to W11 or not willing to dump their GPU enabled computers into the trash to buy a new one, as MS has suggested, will face a decision on what to do. In my view, there are business reasons (for NVIDIA) to support Linux Broadcast, even if it is given as a paid subscription application. Personally, this is one of the two reasons that is preventing me from moving to Linux altogether with my Windows 11 laptop (Thinkpad P16 Gen 1, with an RTX GPU)...the lack of an NVIDIA Broadcast application that can do version 1.4, I dont even need 2.0 yet. Let me share a brief Business Case about this in order to get a nice discussion in this forum:
----------------start of the biz case-------------------
As Microsoft plans to end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, many users with NVIDIA GPU-enabled PCs face critical decisions: upgrade to Windows 11, purchase new hardware, or transition to alternative operating systems like Linux. Developing and maintaining NVIDIA Broadcast for Linux presents a strategic opportunity for NVIDIA to cater to this shifting user base. Market Dynamics and User Migration
The impending end of Windows 10 support will likely prompt a segment of users, especially those with hardware incompatible with Windows 11, to consider Linux as a viable alternative. Linux's desktop market share has been steadily increasing, reaching approximately 4.45% by July 2024 . This growth indicates a rising acceptance and potential user base for Linux-compatible applications. [Linux's Desktop Market Share Climbs]
Community Demand and Competitive Advantage
The Linux community has expressed a consistent demand for NVIDIA Broadcast support on Linux platforms . Currently, no major competitor offers a comparable application on Linux, positioning NVIDIA to fill this gap and establish a strong foothold in the market.
Strategic Benefits for NVIDIA
- User Retention and Expansion: By offering NVIDIA Broadcast on Linux, NVIDIA can retain existing customers transitioning from Windows and attract new users within the growing Linux community.
- Enhanced Brand Loyalty: Demonstrating responsiveness to user needs fosters goodwill and strengthens NVIDIA's reputation as a user-centric company.
- Revenue Opportunities: Introducing NVIDIA Broadcast as a paid subscription service on Linux could create a new revenue stream, capitalizing on users willing to invest in premium features.
Implementation Considerations
Developing NVIDIA Broadcast for Linux involves addressing technical challenges inherent to the platform's diverse distributions and configurations. However, NVIDIA's existing Linux-compatible AI SDKs provide a foundation for development . Offering the application as a paid service could offset development costs and ensure sustainability.
Final Words
The approaching end of Windows 10 support, coupled with Linux's growing desktop market share and unmet demand for advanced broadcasting tools, presents NVIDIA with a timely opportunity. By developing NVIDIA Broadcast for Linux, NVIDIA can enhance user satisfaction, capture a new market segment, and reinforce its position as an industry leader in AI-driven broadcasting solutions.

Note: In all transparency, I did use AI to create this business case, but in my defense I will say that my prompt was very long (354 words) to get the above. What do you think? Feel free to comment.
