For Zorin/Windows 11 24H2 Dual-Booter's

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I've heard about an interesting ... Situation. It seems that on up-to-date Windows Systems with Version 24H2 Microsoft's Recall was found. It seems to be unclear why it is there. And it isn't the whole Recall Stuff but at least some Dependency Components.

AND it is by default enabled. So, to check that and - if You want that - disable it, here is an Explanation Video for it:

I know: It isn't directly Linux/Zorin related. But People, who are using a Dual-Boot System could be affected by this. So, I thought this could be a useful Information.

Considering the number of users who adopt Linux in part to retain better control of their PC, I think this is plenty on topic. I'm currently Linux only, but appreciate the heads up, as I'm the information source on privacy for several of my friends.

I find quite funny that the only thing from Windows 11 that I like more than on Windows 10 are the tabs on the file explorer... but now disabling recall downgrades the file explorer to Windows 7 (no idea if it's mentioned in the video, didn't watch it because I saw this information somewhere else before)

I'm surprised. Ever since Windows 11 was released I thought Windows couldn't realistically get worse but from time to time Microsoft proves me wrong. It's almost like they are doing it on purpose.

Things like this make me feel bad for people who need software that only runs on windows and people with computers that don't support linux well. No wonder not just linux, but even ChromeOS's marketshare is rising, google's privacy invasions are starting to look like a joke compared to microsoft's

It seems that this Recall Components are related to the Explorer in some Way. And when you disable it, it have this Effect on it. And as far as I understand that, you can't uninstall that anymore. Before it was possible, but that was a ''Bug'' Microsoft says ... A Bug, hahaha!

Recall's entire purpose is to know every single thing you do on your computer, including file operations. So yes, it has to do with explorer (or the underlying file system, in which case it probably needs to be able to keep Explorer from conflicting with it while it spies)—to know what your actual file operations were instead of merely take screenshots of them.

If Recall depends on explorer in some way, I would understand explorer crashing or lagging. But downgrading to windows 7...? I'm really curious as to what is going on there for it to do that

A post was split to a new topic: After Zorin 17 Upgrade, boots to Blue Screen

Well ... there forcing to use it. But for me it looks like a Mistake with that whole Thing. A Bug - a real Bug. Or - that would be a bad Case - it is the Preparation to integrate it. But that I would find sh*tty I must say.

Here in the EU that could be interesting because Microsoft and the EU have made a Deal that Recall have to be uninstallable ... But when You want uninstall it and Your system would lose Functionality ... that sounds not right for me.

Excellent! Now my eldest had 22H2 installed easily by not being connected to the internet to allow install with a local user account. Not that simple any more, as Microsoft demand that you are connected to the internet. So I did some searching and found this nugget (I chose the first option):

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/revised-procedure-for-setting-up-a-local-user-account-during-win-11-setup.17959/

In respect of

ipconfig /release

This did not work fully on the TP-link adapter which required me to pull it out of the usb extension cable for netgear dongle.

After that, job done on youngest's PC.

A quick Update to this:

Excellent video as always from Chris Titus. The Linux parallel to me is systemd, and moreover, pulse audio; try and remove pulse audio and the whole system breaks.
