- I selected Notify me of replies, but I don't get notifications. Why?
- Is it possible to select a part of a reply and reply to that? Also, in my reply, can I reference the person who replied to me ?
You get a notification when someone is replying directly to one of your posts, quoting you — as I'm doing right now — or links to one of your posts.
If there's a reply on a post that you are following but is not directed at you explicitly, by using the reply button, you won't see a notification in the profile avatar. However, you'll notice a counter when seeing the posts list.
For reference:
Just select the text that you want to reply to, and a small popup will appear with options, including quoting.
You can reference usernames directly by: @Tombar. This will also trigger a notification.

I've not had any notifications for this post. Or do you mean I have to come to the forum and look for a notification in the avatar?

You can set up that You get an E-Mail when not logged in. For this go in Your Profile, there to Settings and there to E-Mail. There You can set up in which Cases You get a Mail:
In my Case it's german because I have set up my Profile for german but there You find the Options.

Oh, yeah, my mistake. I understood by notification the little badge that appears on the avatar. I personally dislike email notification for this type of things so I always have it disabled. But as @Ponce-De-Leon shows you can enable them via email as well.
