I use my laptop with just its own display and with additional displays.
When no external displays are connected fractional scaling is set to 125%.
When external displays are connected fractional scaling is set to 100%.
I did this as I had issues when the laptop display was 125% and external displays were 100% so I keep them all the same now.
My issue is that if I set the font DPI in wine to a value suitable for 125% then the font size is far too large on 100%. If I set it to look right at 100% then it's far too small at 125%.
I know I can adjust the DPI each time, but this is a pain to do.
Is there any sort of automated way to have this auto-adjust? There must be a simple formula that could be performed taking the fractional scaling into account, but I don't know if it's possible to have that automated.
Thank you! That's really interesting reading, I'll have a play with the settings and add it to my little wiki of useful linux reference stuff.
I've started to use bottles for wine now. Do global wine settings such as
WINE_FULLSCREEN_INTEGER_SCALING=1
Apply through to each bottle or do they need to be set for each bottle? And if so, does anyone know where would I do that?
My current alternative solution
I have just started trialling setting my laptop screen back to 100% and then using the accessibility feature 'Large Text' when using just the laptop screen. Seems to be working alright for me so far.
Is there a way of adjusting how much the 'Large Text' setting increases font sizes by?
I think it's the fractional scaling set to 125% that's causing me a lot of issues as not all software adheres to/adjust in the way you would expect which results in a janky and frustrating experience.
