GeForce Now/Xbox Cloud Gaming (the way to circumvent anti cheat issues)

As it is now available! you can head to:

Nvidia's website for the executable, I don't yet believe NVIDIA has worked to package it for flatpak as a result of its BETA turn of phrase.

I tried it and it worked solid and this made me think back to my time when i was travelling using Linux with Xbox Cloud gaming to play games with anti cheat.

I figured its probably a time to bring this topic back up around cloud gaming.

I found both services to run pretty well (despite using unoffical community ports) while travelling across large swaths of my country, there was very few places where the internet was that bad i could not use it and in those cases (they were quite remote)

I think you mean to say; it installs only as a Flatpak.

Thanks for the update! As much as I'm happy to see a workaround for anti-cheat, I really hope streaming isn't the future of gaming with the rise of GPU and RAM prices. It would be depressing to have to subscribe to a monthly service with a questionable privacy policy to play games.

Unfortunately, Cloud streaming is probably in the best position it has ever been for the largest amount of people possible, and will never compete with something done on a local device. There's too many variables when it comes to web traffic. So even if you have the best internet, with the lowest ping available, it physically can never be as good as locally played. And it may not be that way halfway through a game, and suddenly you can't play because maybe there's too much traffic going on, DNS issues, server outages, the list goes on and on.

Do I think there's a place for cloud gaming? Yes, actually. For some people, it's perfectly fine. But give me systems from 10 years ago playing 20 year old games, and I'd be happier than using the cloud streaming services of today. But I also generally don't play the latest games, and the games that I do play that have anticheat, all work on linux.

Generally, I find that if a game doesn't work on Linux, it's probably not worth my time to play it. Plus, if it ever does work, the game will most likely be massively discounted, so an even bigger plus.
