Gimp has an unstable beta that I have been enjoying: 2.99
It's got some differences... It takes a little getting used to.
But it has some definite new perks, as well.

It's only available to install as a Flatpak because limiting Linux users and force fitting them into what the Few Want has become normal.
Fortunately, some of us abnormal folk resist:
