Gpg key missing

I have had manually installed brave-browser (added the repository) in LM XFCE and it always worked.

Yesterday the software updater system shows errors with brave and in terminal when running "sudo apt update" a missing gpg key was shown for brave-browser.
I fixed it by removing the brave repository, purging brave-browser and re-adding the repository with the commands shown on their website.

Why does this happen?

I found this thread:

There is mentioned that ubuntu has changed something.
Will this happen with other repositories, too, that you lose the gpg? What do you do then?

When the Key is deleted, You have to re-add it. When the Key still exists but the Path is maybe changed in the Source File, you could try it with changing the Path in the Source File.

Thank you for your reply. I'll have to find out what the source file is.

I read that the error occurred because the dependency for brave-keyring was accidentally forgotten for the current brave-browser package so that brave-keyring maybe was deleted by autoremove command and it can also help to install brave-keyring manually to solve the problem.

As I haven't used the autoremove command lately but made a kernel upgrade from 6.8 to 6.14 and the brave error happened afterwards, maybe the kernel upgrader tool of Linux Mint has removed the brave-keyring. I don't know if there is such a function integrated.

In /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

You could check if the Keyrings are still on the System. Go to /usr/share/keyrings and look if there are still there.

Hmm ... when the Tool would make an autoremove Command during it runs, it could be, but ... would be only an Idea. At least I think, that it isn't intended.

Ah, now I understand what you meant! Thank you for the explanation.
I just saw that I had set automatic maintenance to remove outdated kernels and dependencies once a week. The keyring package may have been removed in the process.
I can no longer determine what the cause was for the gpg error; perhaps there was another reason.
The path in the source file is right and in /usr/share/keyrings is the brave gpg key now.
