But now Steam just won't open anymore. I have tried reinstalling it via the Software App, using the Zorin version of it. That didn't fix it. Then i tried removing it and installing Steam via the .deb provided by Valve, that didn't fix it. System Monitor shows that the steam task is running, but nothing is happening or appearing visually.
Graphics overall seem to be a bit odd and choppy, but i haven't run a Game just yet.
What could be the issue? The Intel Guide said something about a HWE kernel that needs to be installed for 24.04 based installations in order for it to work with B580 GPUs, do i need to do that here too? Or would that mess with Zorin itself?
Small update : I have also noticed artifacts appear on the UI like this
Thanks for the info. I have read through some of the Threads of other Users on here but most users seem to have used the older Zorin 17. Would that still apply to me on Zorin 18 Core? Sadly it's pretty difficult to find any information on the B580 on Linux / Zorin.
Unfortunately, I don't know exactly. However, it may be worth trying a newer kernel to see if it helps. If not, you can boot with the normal Zorin kernel again.
I would expand a bit what stands in the Guide for uninstalling the Nvidia Stuff. Type in the Terminal:
sudo apt purge nvidia* libnvidia*
and then:
sudo apt autoremove
But please take a Look in the List of to be removed Files before You delete them. Also: Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that with the Terminal Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
Thank you. I checked and it is running in Wayland. I did some digging and turns out i made a rookie mistake and got a little too trigger happy when deleting old files and deleted some dependencies that steam needs. like the " steam-libs-i386" thing. sadly, following most of the guides i could find did not lead to a solution. like the " dpkg --add-architecture i386" command i keep seeing regarding this issue. thankfully the system hasn't been in use for long so i quickly did a fresh install of zorin and now steam installs and opens just fine again and no graphical artifacts.
Thanks for the help here. Now i installed the Intel drivers following the intel guide again and "clinfo" does show the correct GPU, but the "system details" tab doesn't show it as an Arc B580 and programs like PSensor also do not show the GPU. What could that be now? Missing Mesa because of a fresh install?
Could be. But something simple to check would be switching to Xorg and see if that helps. To do that, go to the Login Screen. Click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in.
Seems like going for the Kisak Mesa did the Job and now it's recognized as a B580 and everything seems to be working fine now. Hard to find information about B580's on linux, so that was an adventure. Thanks everybody for the help.
