I want to buy a GPU HD7670 4GB 128bit for my old PC, and I want to ask if the operating system ZORIN OS 17.3 supports this graphics card, the driver for the GPU according to AMD is AMD Catalyst™ 15.9. Thank you
Hi, and welcome to Zorin OS!
My understanding is that AMD graphic drivers are included in the Linux kernel by default. I'm not sure if they include the ones that date that far back (this seems to have been developed in 2015), but assuming this is included you don't need to install anything.
This is where someone like @Ponce-De-Leon might have a better idea whether this is true or not. I'm still very lost when it comes to graphic drivers myself...
Welcome to the Forum!
The Kernel should support this Graphics Card so far I've seen (from Kernel 3.0 to 6.12). And to say that: You don't have to install a Driver for it. The Driver for AMD Graphic Cards is included in the Kernel.
If You should have Problems, You could install an older Kernel like the 6.1 LTS Kernel or the 5.15 LTS Kernel. Because these are LTS Kernels, they are still supported.
All old AMD gpus are still supported and will be using the "radeon" driver. The AMD Catalyst 15.9 provides "fglrx" as the driver which is no longer supported for many years. You would have to downgrade your kernel to early 4.XX.XX for fglrx to work.
I'm using Radeon HD7570 right now and have no problem using "radeon" driver
