Greetings frens, Zorin isn’t finding newest Nvidia drivers. It gets weirder from there…

So I have a 4080 GPU, b650i motherboard, and 7600 processor.

Zorin — no matter what I try — only lists nvidia driver 535 as proprietary, tested.

The weird part about this is when I installed Zorin on my other computer, it listed nvidia driver 550 as an option.

Is there some reason it won’t on this stronger computer? I’ve googled how to completely remove, manually add, etc. nvidia drivers and manually installing the 550 actually broke zorin and I had to reinstall it just now.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Out of curiosity, did you install the latest version of Zorin 17, indicated by '...r2.iso'?

Greetings — I do believe so as I just downloaded the Zorin iso today to reinstall it.

PS this is what broke Zorin:

You could try the PPA method mentioned here:

And rename the line with 535 to 550.

But before you do start to mess with the drivers, backup your /home folder including hidden files. In the dim and far distant past I glitched a Linux OS trying to install proprietary drivers and ended up reinstalling the OS!

Thanks friend. I think that’s what happened to me today lol. I don’t know that backing up would’ve done anything in my case though as I physically couldn’t re enter Zorin after manually trying to install 550. I just saw a black screen with lines of white text and it never would progress beyond that and log me in. Crazy.
