Zorin OS 17.2 Core 64 bit. Dual boot with Windows 10 Home 64. Windows 10 is GRUB default (for now). HP Pavilion 17z Notebook.
Hello!
After running Software Updater in Zorin OS, sometimes I need to restart. When I restart, the GRUB selection defaults to Windows Boot Manager. The arrow keys on the keyboard are non-functional. The menu selection is locked. I cannot move the selection up to select Zorin OS. I have to let the system log into Windows, restart, then I can use the arrow keys to select Zorin OS. This only happens after I run Software Updater.
If I don't run Software Updater, I can restart from Zorin OS and use the arrow keys to reselect Zorin OS in the menu.
More of an annoyance than a real issue. I did not find anything in the forum.
Thank you.
Is Windows OS > Control Panel > Fast Boot Disabled?
If it is enabled, it can cause this problem because Windows does not shut down with Fast Boot - it hibernates, giving the Illusion of a fast boot up, when in fact it wakes from hibernate, not actually booting up.
Can you post the Terminal output for
sudo efibootmgr

Thank you for your swift reply.
BootCurrent: 0003
Timeout: 0 seconds
BootOrder: 0003,0000,0001,9999,9998
Boot0000* Windows Boot Manager
Boot0001* Internal Hard Disk
Boot0003* ubuntu
Boot9998* Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive(UEFI)
Boot9999* USB Drive (UEFI)
I only have the issue when I launch Software Updater from the task bar.
I will check Fast Boot. I may havechanged the setting with that Windows update last August that caused the issue with Linux dual boot systems. I had to turn off secure boot.
Fast Start Up in the power settings was checked. The checkmark was removed.

So far so good. I have not been able to reproduce the error. Hopefully the issue won't reappear when the Software Updater performs an update.
Thank you

There was an update today that Zorin Os indicated a restart was required after installing. I was able to use the arrow keys to select Zorin at boot.
Marking as solution. Thank you!
