Good morning, afternoon or evening... First of all thank you for all your support, since I was investigating for a long time and I couldn't find any possible solution...
I have a canaima (a laptop provided by the Venezuelan government) in which comes preinstalled a distro based on debian but with slight changes (I'll explain later)...
Some time ago I wanted to find some possible use for it, I tried the preinstalled distro but it's too limited and the download packages (I think it's called that) are completely obsolete since when trying to install any program from the terminal or the preinstalled store it gives an error when trying to connect to the canaima packages (Your URL)....
I set out to install another distro or operating system but with the dualboot function (because the old distro has a sentimental value for me and I did not want to remove it completely) at that time I did not want another distro as it seemed the same (plus windows does not have good performance in the canaima), I search and analyze my options and I opted for an operating system based on Android x86 (although it is an operating system as far as I understand equally based on linux but with native support for android apps : sweat_smile:, or if not correct me) I installed it and everything was fine in the installation, but when I finished it asked me if I wanted to install grub (at that time I thought that the grub that brings by default the canaima would recognize it automatically), everything was fine but when I rebooted I started the canaima operating system without a trace of Phoenix OS (that's the distro I installed)...
I looked for a way to update the Grub registry with (sudo update-grub) but when I did it only recognized and still only recognizes itself and its recovery boot (at that time when I searched in forums and anywhere else I didn't find any solution, so I paused the project)...
Some time later I stopped being interested in android x86 and I remembered that in another canaima laptop I installed Ubuntu, so I tried to install Ubuntu thinking that the problem was with Phoenix OS, I did it and still the grub didn't recognize Ubuntu...
But this time I didn't give up so easily and I investigated, trying the solutions that were similar to mine (making use of the usb live and the same canaima system), but anyway nothing...
Among those solutions I found two things, cited successively: 1.
1._ I understood that the boot file that the command sudo update-grub recognizes is the vmliuz file, when searching in both distros I realized that the file of the Canaima operating system is vmlinuz3.13 and the one of Ubuntu vmlinuz5. 15 (take into account that the canaima operating system is from 2013 and has not been updated at any time due to the error mentioned above), I researched about it but I think I did not know how to formulate the question in google ....
2._Successively I found an iso of a USB LIVE that contains a kind of grub in it.... it's called Super Grub2 Disk on which I have been able to boot the distros I have installed....
Testing ubuntu from that type of boot I tried to run the command sudo install-grub (something like that) as it seemed to me that Ubuntu was not prioritized in the boot because it did not have Grub installed, then I ran the command sudo update-grub, which recognized both Ubuntu and Debian (emphasize that it recognized the canaima operating system as Debian and that in my opinion is the same but highly restricted by the factors discussed above), but when I rebooted the canaima, surprise, it booted the grub of the canaima again. ..
But in that boot I did I noticed something else, the grub that brings the canaima is version 1.99 (it has other letters and numbers but at this time I have not booted the machine) and the Super Grub2 Disk I think it is 3.xx (I do not remember the last numbers) ....
In the middle of those tests I found out that the Ubuntu performance on the canaima is very low, and I was not convinced so I decided to change distro again, and I decided for zorin os for its speed and nice environment (note that I also tried to boot from the boot menu of the bios, and I saw that Ubuntu was as boot priority)....
when installing I noticed that I was installing grub2, so I thought it would finally be as priority Zorin OS, but nope, still doesn't work
i don't know what to do anymore, the only thing i saw is that the boot or swap partitions that i created have traces of ubuntu because i didn't format them i have to reinstall zorin and format the partitions...
I know I have said a couple of deep things (in my opinion) but I still consider myself as a novice in this regarding linux , I think I have already emphasized everything necessary and important of this journey
I leave here below the english translation if that's your language (sorry for the google translate)
