Grub question

grub menu shows up when I boot. How do I get the computer from doing this? I've installed zorin 18 and also have partitions with zorin 17.3 in it.

If you are dual booting, then it must show so you can select what O.S. you are trying to boot into.

If you do not want the grub menu and want to remove Zorin OS 17, that is an option.

Deleting Win 11, reformatting partitions to ext4, and combining partitiona using GParted

Partition 3 is the safe one. You do not need to format it - Instead, select it, then click the (-) delete icon. Then, select the Zorin OS ext4 partition 7 and select Resize (From gear icon or from Right Click) and slide the slider over to reclaim the unclaimed space formerly occupied by Windows OS.

Hello Cardiffsurfer, I had a simular issue while creating a USB of ZorinOS-18 from one USB to USB, after install it said said I must reboot and I think it borked up the main PC-ZorinOS-boot, as I had same screen you described upon returning to MAIN-OS. My fix was to plug the bootable USB-ZorinOS-Image-Drive back in, then boot to TRY mode, open Terminal and type simply " boot-repair " choose auto. Then afterwards reboot without USB and all good. Hope this helps you & any others with the Black Grub Menu. Have a Happy Linux day

You could remove Zorin 17 and then disable GRUB. Or - if You want keep Z17 for now - You could at least reduce the Time the GRUB Menu appears.

Remember, the grub menu comes in handy if you get a kernel update that plays naughty and you need "Additional Options for Zorin" from grub menu to choose a previous working kernel. Just saying. Zab.

This is probably off topic but 10 secs on the Zorin grub menu is overkill.

The minimal should be 5 secs.

I have mine set at 3 secs.

It takes me 10-seconds to eat my grubs, so I keep mine set to 10-seconds, so I have time to have my grub eating fingers free, so that I may hit the enter key when ready.

When You set it to -1, it is the Oppsite. The GRUB Menu stands until the User makes an Input.

I did not know that and I thank you for that information I also found out that setting the timer to "0" will skip the grub menu and boot into the default OS.

True, you may save a few seconds by doing that, but you may regret it if you need grub menu to access boot options. As I said before in post #6:
