Been playing with Ventoy and I have several ISOs on a 64gb stick including Zorin OS Core Install. Saves having multiple sticks for just one ISO. Ventoy implements a menu to pick your ISO and boot it for example rescue ISOs if you haven't come across Ventoy before. Easy to install too.
I also happen to love that you can still use the USB as a usb and move things other than just ISOs with it. I have common configs for applications, so regardless of what OS I'm trying, I also have the configs so it's quick to setup everything that I had before.
I am a Ventoy convert too. However there are some distros that will not work with it, nothing to do with Ventoy. For example I had issues with Antix and PCLinuxOS which resulted in having to resort to K3b DVD burning.
I have played with it, too and added a nice Cyberpunk Theme with some Modifications for Ventoy Usage.
Yes ... but I would say, it would be good to look a Youtube Video for Example. Because then You can see that there is a simple to use graphical Installer included and You don't have to use the Terminal or an Web Interface.
So you don't have to make the USB bootable ?is that correct ?
You can have normal files or whatever on plus bootable ISOs?
Correct. It has a small partition it makes at the start of the drive for booting, but it leaves the rest for you to place ISOs in that you can boot, OR just as a standard USB drive to transport files. So I have a 128gig drive, and i use it for basically anything and everything. Install Ventoy, forget and use as a regular drive if you want. It'll just have 2 partitions, but the start one is very small, so it's not a big loss.
That's excellent, I'll give a USB a try next time I wanna try another distro.
With ventoy
Another option is to install gnome boxes and use multiple ISO's as VM's from there.
Easy distro hopping.
If your machine can cope that is.
I tried to do VM ... my lappy can't cope. (Or not compatible or something like that )
Thanks for reminding me about Ventoy .... I just installed it on a 32 G thumb drive and install 4 ISO files on it ....
Rescuezilla
Zorin 17.2
Mint Wilma
Gparted
I still have 16 G left over .... best part is I freed up 6 other thumb drives for future use ..... 2 of these drives were duplicate devices .....
Is that due to the hard drive being near capacity? Say 80%
No , hard drive have like 80% space left
Can't remember what it said some time ago when I tried to install a VM. I'll try again and see what it says.
No problem for boxes to be installed then.
It's in the repo.
Worth a look, it's a very small prog and so easy to use.
I didn't know you could do that!
I love Ventoy. I got a 128 gig USB stick and put Ventoy on it. Then installed about 8 or 10 distros. Very convenient. If I want to add another iso I just download it and then using the Dophin split screen function just drag and drop the new iso onto the Ventoy stick.
I was recently given an old laptop that wouldn't run windoze 10. I set the bios to boot from the usb stick if there. When it boots up with the Ventoy stick I can then try a distro and after checking it out just reboot and try another one. Very easy to see what will run well on an old piece of hardware.
Just discovered a new USB burner for Windows users:

For those who can't access the lounge:
Yeah, I've been using Ventoy for more than a year, and it's very seldom let me down. I frequently have to swap images for work, and make/restore full system backups. My work USB has Windows 10 and 11, and Rescuezilla and Redo Rescue on it. My personal Ventoy drive had been up to an absurd number of distributions from distro hopping before I pared it down and got rid of the ones I knew I wasn't interested in touching again.
Ok ,installed boxes. Installed ventoy. Put ventoy on my USB and downloaded an iso and put it on the USB.
Booted into the distro from boxes. So far works alright.
Couple of questions.
Is it suppose to run new distro on only a part of screen ,can't get it to show fullscreen ?
It's slow ...but it's because it runs of a live copy? Or my PC to slow? (Boxes made 2gig ram available).
Is ALL the functions available on a live copy ,as opposed to an install ?
Haven't had time to really play around with it.
I'll see again when I have more time.
PS: iso was for pclinuxos xfce.
But anyway ,the VM works. Not sure what other VM I tried before that didn't wanna play with me lol.
Edit : aah wait I just remembered,I was on win10 at the time and wanted to do a VM ,didn't work ...
I much prefer virt-manager - never tried boxes. The only issue is you might get 800 x 600 login screen, and also on first showing of desktop. I create virtual drives that I install to, otherwise you have to start from scratch each time.
+1
Agreed! Ventoy is awesome! It's the only USB ISO Bootloader I use (or recommend)! I've been using it since it's initial release! Great piece of software right there!
