Hi, I've been using Linux/Zorin OS for about 2 months now & need some help with using the HDMI port. When connecting my laptop (Lenovo Flex 2-15) to my tv via the HDMI the only image that comes up on the tv is my desktop background. No icons, tabs or task bar! And when opening a page on laptop the tv still shows only the desktop background! Before switching from Windows 10 to Zorin 17.3 Pro it worked fine! I have updated software & disabled Secure Boot.
I see that I am logging in with Wayland. If that's an issue how do I remedy that? Any help, suggestions or resolutions would be greatly appreciated!
It sounds like you are extending the screen instead of mirroring it.
If that's the case, you can move your mouse off screen (left or right, I don't know the default direction it works for) and the mouse will appear on the TV screen instead. You can drag whole windows over to it.
If you don't have a keyboard shortcut for changing the mode, I'm pretty sure you can change it under "display settings", but only while the HDMI is plugged in. Right click on the desktop to find the settings in the popup menu.
You can change the mode to mirroring instead if you just want it to copy the laptop screen.
For the extended mode:
In the taskbar settings (right-click on the taskbar) select preferences and then
go to tab "position" > panel and enable "Display panels on all monitors".
If you use a dock this setting is at tab "position and size" > Show on all monitors
Welcome to the Forum!
When the Monitor in plugged in, did You checked the Settings in Settings>Displays?
Go to the Login Screen. Click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in.
Changing to "Mirror" did the trick!
Easy Peasy!
Thanks So Much!
