I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and express my deepest gratitude to the Linux, Ubuntu and Zorin OS developers and their communities. Thank you for the many years of unselfish dedication, hard work, and passion you have poured into creating and maintaining this incredible operating system.
My journey here comes after more than 40 years in the Microsoft ecosystem—stretching all the way back to DR CP/M, Unix, and MS-DOS, up through the modern iterations of Windows. Ultimately, a shifting landscape regarding user trust and privacy led me to become a Windows refugee.
After evaluating numerous Linux distributions, Zorin OS stood out as the clear winner. It provides the most seamless, transparent, and intuitive solution available, which is exactly what I needed. I am currently running Zorin OS 18.1 Pro (X11) across a small fleet of hardware, including:
Dell™ Inspiron™ 3880 (Desktop)
Dell™ OptiPlex™ 9030 (All-in-One Desktop)
Dell™ Vostro™ 5581 (Notebook)
The experience has been so positive that I am now in the process of transitioning over 200+ fellow Windows refugees to Zorin OS. Because my clientele skews a bit older, the familiar layout and stability of Zorin have made the learning curve incredibly gentle for them.
To support this network, I am also currently configuring an HP® Compaq® Elite™ 8300 SFF desktop as an Ubuntu headless, self-hosted server. This will serve as our central hub to connect these machines and allow me to provide streamlined, remote desktop support whenever they need a hand.
It has been quite a journey to get to this point, but I couldn't be happier with where we've landed and the control I've regained over my own hardware. Thank you again to the team and the community for making a migration of this scale not just possible, but a pleasure.
Glad to be a part of the community, and I look forward to connecting with you all!
